Put a moat around the stadium with drawbridges.

With live crocs!

Step #1 - get rid of the god awful chain link fencing.

Step #2 - Add a nice facade. Maybe do it with a medieval theme. Light fixtures that look like lanterns.

We could do both #1 for probably less than $250k.

Its hard for me to believe reading articles about the revenue we have. I get it. We dont match with the P5, but are you telling me the UCF program is comparable to the United States government in debt owed?* I want numbers! :D

The revenue we have is funded by student fees. Given the debt structure of our financing of BHNS, the Arena and the athletic village I am sure much, of that is already pledged to the payment of bonds. We went into some serious debt to build all of that. The projections were based upon TV revenue from the Big East which we all know did not happen.

I don't think anyone here is talking about a couple of costumes and if you try to go cheap it will look cheap. I imagine that a brick façade would be in the seven figures (multiple 7 figures). Removing and replacing the chain link fence which I think would do wonders would be six figures.

Also you have to think that expansion of BHNS is also a priority and they would not want to expend money on upgrades if they would have to be removed for expansion.

Like I posted before, we have had multiple medieval themed pre-shows over the years. For a time medieval times put it on. It could never really grab your attention. I think in order to get it to work it needs to be a big production with lights and smoke and music etc... Also people have to get into the stands for pre-game for it to work.

God this sounds so terribly cheesy to do.

Knights is a symbol but all of the branding should stay with UCF, which is where the real point of passion is. No one identifies with being an actual knight. Turning the stadium into a castle would be an eye soar on an otherwise beautiful Floridian campus. Everything should stick to beautiful, Florida, palm trees, sunshine, less clothing, and all of the other reasons that make UCF awesome vs. being up North and terrible.

The Knight statue out front is cool and thats probably the extent of what it should be. Maybe an occasional halftime show goof, sure. But dear god no on going full on medieval.

Themes seem to work for every other damn themed pre-show in the country. Running a buffalo, stabbing a spear, Trojan stabbing field with sword, War Eagle takes flight across stadium, Hell, even ECU has their theme INFUSED into EVERYTHING.

Why not UCF? Thought we were trying to be big-time? How about some "show". People come to Orlando for the theatrical attractions anyway...why not participate, do something unique? I don't get the preference for "blandness" some of you talk about. Those that do must have very boring homes...

Wife, "Hey, honey, can I put this picture on the wall?"

Boring Rivals Member, "Hell no...it's too much, I'm going to watch TV".

Wife, "Hey honey, it will will break the monotony of this wall here by the door".

Boring Rivals Member, "Who cares, it's a waste of money...I'm going to go work on the Studebaker that's been in the garage for 8 years..."

Blame the fans. UCF has done this in several different ways and people have not bought into it. maybe a medieval thing is not the way to go. Fans are more interesting in tailgate than getting early to the game.

Horseshit. Students pay fees and have a say. Here, easy...go to the Gauntlet board and the Student page and ASK via a post what they want to see...note their response. They did it for the 2013 USC entrance. Had a simple, yet effective tarp with just a little bit of "flare". Students were taking pics, sharing, etc. Just like the uniforms, the previous administration despised OPENLY the medieval theme. This was even said by Zach Lassitor in the fan conferences in the off-season. Did you go?

Na, do it right. Build it and they will come.

I am sure everyone would appreciate a good show. I just know that historically (meaning even pre-GOL) it has been implemented and was not all that well received or attended. Maybe things have changed. I would love to see some tradition take off.

Don't you think that a good portion of the USC game excitement had to do with a nationally ranked team coming to BHNS and us being undefeated? Winning creates a good bit of excitement. Look the medieval theme goes back long before GOL. It has had many incarnations. Personally I love the idea, I just don't think it is as easy to create something with staying power as everyone here seems to believe.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but why do they have to wait for a game with South Carolina to actually care about those things.

Exactly. They had something going and I remember the expressed dissatisfaction from MANY students and perhaps the entire Gauntlet when it was gone the next game.

WE NEED TO EMBRACE OUR THEME.

Seminoles? Spears, tomahawks, feather theme EVERYWHERE.

Gators...ENTIRE DAMN STADIUM is Orange and Blue (ick!).

I don't know. You should volunteer with the UCF athletics and help organize something. I am sure they would appreciate your input. you might actually learn why things are done and not done, and what limitations they might be working with. My guess is that it is not as simple as you think. Now that there will be a new regime it is probably a good time to get on board.

What if we burned witches before the game, started a system of nobility based solely on birth that would tell you where you can sit, allowed the Catholic Church to make the rules for the tailgating, gave GOL prima nocta, had beer wenches, nicknamed the team "the Black Death", the announcers speak in the King James and we keep our alumnI base young by having a life expectancy of 30.
You have touched on exactly why I am offended by what the term "knights" represents. We might as well be called "drunken indians." I will hereby boycott all games until the name is changed and Hitt is fired.

Why wasn't it received? Because it was done on the dime and it sucked with horrible stage management. We don't need medieval times to help. We need something far more interactive and original. Put student volunteers around the sections in ominous druid cloaks, have the archery club (which exists) do something. Get the medieval LARP club around the concourse promoting things, they've been vocal about wanting to help...you can save some money there. It doesn't have to be cheesy "Renaissance Faire" crap. It can be done moderately and convey a good theme.

THIS IS ORLANDO dammit!

GIVE ME THE JOB! Seriously...I actually have stage management experience.

You're boring. You probably have a white car because it's good for Florida.

You never thought that the Knight theme could be used with a tongue-in-cheek juxtaposition??? Come on. Lame. You graduate in 1944?

medieval is boring. Just go to Medieval Times if you want some over the top cheesy jousting shit and old accents or whatever.

UCF has done all of these pregame things before. Should they bring back one thing and keep it? Yeah, sure. But going over the top because "We're the Knights!!!!!" just doesnt mesh with all of the actual reasons we love UCF.

So go have your medieval themed tailgate.

It IS as simple as we think...that's the irritating part. A few pennants like in the Citrus Bowl and a few tarps or similar lining the brick outside would go a LOOOONG way.

I think the medieval thing is cool, but im not down for Halloween Horror Nights style. The last thing i want is to be harassed by someone dressed as a Knight on the way to the bathroom.

No SHIT! I've said 18,000 times over-the-top stuff would be stupid also. I'm just talking about signage, swords, shields, maces, etc in the signs, outlining, cubed borders(like the USC student section sign)...much like FSU's spear (Fear the Spear campaign????).

So this is what a losing season brings, bring on some attendance threads or lack thereof. I do applaud your enthusiasm. Some large graphics around the stadium would be cool. Who knows what the new AD and coach will bring, hopefully a new take on everything.

You're just a contrarian looking to argue, I'm actually contributing...and have contributed things used in the stadium in the past which can be attested by others in this forum.

And you wear Plaid.
no i just dont buy into 'any idea is a good idea' or 'doing something for the sake of doing something'

if you want to add character or spruce some things up...ok...but always harking back to "we're the knights so we should all act like knights' continues to be tried and nothing every really connects/sticks. Heck even the 2007 rebrand included a ton of Knights stuff with the new logos........and all of the knights went away because it wasnt as effective as the UCF wordmarks.

That's because Stansbury Stanburied everything. Most everyone outside of the admin had swords, shields, emblems, etc on clothing, stickers and hats....home-slice came and sterilized everything.

He got us a black basketball court rewarding a sorry team that was on probation, instead of boosting the aesthetics of the Football stadium. The cabana is a cabana...I sit in the cabana and enjoy being cabana'd. That's a club...and even Knightro, in full armor, is sitting juxtaposing against the beach theme wearing board shorts. I give them that credit at least.
