Snelson Disgruntled?

Knee jerk reaction? Probably had an immature moment

I certainly am not making excuses for Dredrick being impatient. If you choose to play for a coach, you have to trust him and respect his leadership, including decisions of who to put on the field and when.

But to be fair to Dedrick, let's not forget circa January/Feb. 2016. Dredrick was courted by great programs and many from UCF's staff and fans were reaching out to him and hoping he would come here (and we were the longshot).

Well we got our wish, and in no small part due to the concept of "come here and have a chance at making an immediate impact". Now that he is here, let's not be so quick to throw stones, especially if his only "transgression" is primarily confidence in his game and desire to contribute on the field.

I trust that Frost and staff can coach him up, both as a player and a man. Where infractions are relatively minor like this, I think we as fans can be part of the answer for all Knight athletes, by showing love and appreciation that they chose "Us" and not somewhere else.

Totally disagree

We live in a society of entitlement. Dredrick is owed nothing other than a
college scholarship and an opportunity to play football. He still has both, the last I checked.

He's part of the "me" and not "we"
Society.

Came to his senses and wisely deleted his posts

Well if he was in doghouse before the game (barely saw field while walk on Willett had carries), will he play this week?
Also, recall posts here about frosh speaking to press -- their real danger is on social media. How many players nationally blow it with ill conceived posts?
I posted how games before hometown friends and family bring out the best and worst in young players.

This was the first step. He needed to recognize that it was selfish and really stupid to throw a social media tantrum after a big team win and delete that noise. Now he just has to put in the work, support his teammates when they succeed and fail, and demonstrate that he learned from this. He's still so young with a ton of talent and a good group around him to learn from. He'll be fine.

At least our "problem" players usually aren't flunking out or raping co-eds -- unlike certain other state universities.

Bama's Barnett always struck me as a kid who was going to bounce around until he found the school that was going to start him right away. We'll see him on season 3 of Last Chance U.
Don't forget the role of parents sometimes. Recall the father of a couple of UCF basketball brothers who will go unnamed about 15 years ago. Despite Kirk yielding to demands they start, dad had them transfer to OkSt (known for their 0% graduation rate!) and mediocre NBA careers. Cost us scholarship slots, too. Once you make promises to players, it's a slippery slope.

Good if painful learning experience. Wish we'd please let this thread die. Can't we get back to talking statues and stuff, instead? :p

Dredrick will be fine. I don't think I'd want an athlete on our team that wasn't hungry. Perhaps Frosty was just waiting for the conference schedule to use him so that opponents don't have film on him to review!

So in one thread you want to tell players, parents and now other fans when and how to express themselves. Didn't you say something about those who think themselves privileged? Do you own a mirror?
What are you talking about? Crazy post.

In a good program with top talent and competition, it's not uncommon for a WR to shine only as a junior and senior or sometimes just as a senior. It doesn't affect his NFL chances or draft stock at all. Tough competition is never a bad thing.

Look at Brandon Marshall. Didn't show true greatness until his last game. Guys going to the hall of fame

You listening Dredrick??

B Marshall started his junior year at safety, leading the team in tackles.

His senior year, he had 74 receptions and 1,195 yards and 11 TDs. Good enough for 2nd team CUSA.

He had a solid senior year. I think you're right, you can make it to the NFL with only starting one year.

As far as Dredrick, I'm guessing part of coming to ucf was to see early playing time. He's not starting every game so I'm sure there is some frustration. But reality is setting in.

Marshall had a great Senior Year...but he really became the 'team' star after Mike Walker went down in the last regular season game vs Rice.

Marshall was basically unstoppable in the Bowl Game vs Nevada-Reno as he had 11 catches for 210 yds and 3 TD's. (He had 24 catches in last 3 games).

Before blowing out his knee vs Rice, Walker finished 2005 with 64 catches, 855 yds, 9 TD's.

This is true- same with Doug Baldwin at Stanford.

Marshall to the HOF? I really doubt it.
Marshall has played 10 years and is currently 29th in receiving yards. Randy Moss, TO, and Isaac Bruce all played 14-15 years and have around 4K more yards. If he can stay healthy and have a couple more big years (like the 1,500 last year) he'll be in the top 5 of all time and be a shoe in.

Are you kidding me? He's only 32. Look at his numbers already?

Sad part about Marshall's now 11 year NFL Career is that all of his catches haven't lead ONE team to a playoff appearance...so he obviously doesn't even have a playoff win under his belt.

He is now known more for Fantasy Football points than helping his team win meaningful games.

Maybe he'll be in the first class of a Fantasy football Hall of fame.

.
Compare to UCF alum Shawn Jefferson: 13 seasons in NFL, "only" 470 receptions, 7000+ yds, 29TDs, 12 post-season games including 2 super bowls. He's spent the past 12 seasons coaching receivers in NFL for Detroit, Tenn., and Miami.

Ill-advised tweet by Snelson but damn thank god twitter and facebook etc weren't around when I was 18. I can't imagine the stupid and counterproductive things I would have posted. Snelson is young, competitive, talented, and judging by the tweet emotional. He will get more touches as his career goes on. I think if he can be patient he will be a productive wide receiver for us and be a good player. He will eventually get fed and be happy.

Remember how "Speedy" Hall had troubles holding on to the ball his frosh year and didn't see much PT, but you could see the talent. Great player the following season.

So, Snelson was right, he needed to be thrown to!

Scott Frost in post game interview said there are many people on the team that are awaiting their turn of having a big game. I guess he was saving Snelson for UConn.

It was great to see the passing game get going, especially since the running game couldn't do it in that one. Having some stability at QB has to help. Snelson played great. Keep at it. If this offense can find a balanced attack to go along with what has been an impressive defense all year -- look out!
