Former UCF player and coach Alan Gooch joined episode 229 of the Sons of UCF Podcast. Gooch was literally a member of the UCF Football program from day 1, and has a unique perspective on the rise of the program over the past 40 years.

Once his playing career ended, Gooch transitioned into coaching, where he spent the next 21 years on the UCF staff leading the running backs. In his time, he worked with some legendary coaches and players, including Gene McDowell, Mike Kruczek, Marquette Smith, and Alex Haynes.

Since leaving UCF, Gooch has been heading up Cure Bowl, played annually in Orlando for the past 8 seasons. Gooch is also married to UCF Cheer coach Linda Gooch, who is starting her 40th season of coaching in 2023.

I was there for the 88 troy noise penalty. What a hoot. They told us to be quiet. We got louder. That is the game we snuck a keg into the citrus bowl. Hey, it was the 80s. We had fun!
