And I agree with your viewpoint, AM has alot of flaws and is only a 1 year guy...not what we need.

Sure, but at this moment we don't have any of those guys (assuming Gatewood won't be back without a position switch). He is going to need the best transfer available (maybe 2) and show us what a good coach he is.

He wasn’t terrible, he was fairly decent on bad teams with bad coaches at usf. I would take him in a New York Minute vs what we currently have and saw all year out of Keene.
I think at this point and how it all went down mixed with the backlash, DG ain’t coming back. That ship has sailed on that one. There will be plenty of teams interested in him, especially with 3 years eligibility left.
I would think MOST schools would be interested in him. He is legit top 20 QB in FBS. Every game he made 1 or 2 throws that were “watch a replay” moments. Socks or not, the kid can play QB. And I actually do buy the system argument here. He is NOT the dual threat athlete, natural runner, instincts guy like KZ. He is a pocket passer. That said, I’m not sure i’ll root for him. Very different exit than KZ or Bortles.
He’s only playing 1 more. This was planned to be his last year and is why he stuck after Gus was hired. Until he got injured.
Hold off on the transfer QB and see how you recruit. Mikey with QB recruit from GA along with other guys should help us get to 2023. Don't forget our running QB #14 to help out too.

I think Gus has the guy he wants, the kid from Georgia. He is going to give him every opportunity to win the job, and grow from his mistakes next year as we hopefully head of to the Big 12, having a year of experience under his belt. My guess is he would be looking at the transfer portal for DT's, a backup QB, any kind of OL help, bigger sized backs if he can't land the ones he wants out of high school.

I think Bo Nix is the guy we go after if he enters the portal. He knows the system and it would be an easy transition. He would be a better fit than DG and would give us an opportunity to really compete in the AAC next season.
Bo Nix reminds me of Adrian Martinez, a long time starter who just never was able to live up to expectations.

Gus isn't looking for the next guy, he thinks he has him in Castellanos. In the portal he is going to be looking for a guy to backup Castellanos. The Georgia boy will be our starter unless CJ Stroud decides he likes warmer weather. The Clemson kid sounds like the kind of QB Gus is after, but he already has a guy. I would imagine Gus will be looking to add another type of that athlete at the QB position every year.
Losing some good DL, might go the way of the portal to fill the gaps. Depending on what he signs out of high school, that might be the something he looks at. Also LB, need some depth there. OL! Got to get some hogs in there. I know without DG in the lineup, D's stacked the box. But we can and should be better on the OL. If we are going to compete in the Big 12, we have to get better on the OL and the DL depth,.

I don't want a true Frosh starting the majority of games for 3 years out of 4....and I'm sure that was never Gus' plan. He is looking for a 1-2 year starter (at least) in the portal.
We need a transfer QB that can mentor and push Mikey and TC (Georgia QB). That’s why I think Nix is the best solution. I still think Mikey could turn out to be a good QB. Many QB’s have grown tremendously from one year to the next. If not, hopefully TC turns out to be the solution as we move into the Big12. Nix was playing the best teams and defenses in the country. That’s a far cry from beating Tulane and ECU. I also think Cincinnati will be in a rebuild season. I think he would give us a chance next season in the AAC as long as Gus is able to add few more quality transfers.
Nailed it on the potential for Mikey to improve in year two. That should happen. I don't agree with Cincinnati having a down year. With coverage this year and going to the Big 12. I think they will pickup a QB in the portal. That's the problem everyone is looking at QBs in the portal.😎
If I'm Gus, I'm looking for a QB transfer to play 1 or 2 years at most. I watched a bunch of Castellanos highlights and I'm sold on him. Think of KZ, but faster and with a stronger arm. I think the longest throw on the highlights was 45 yards, but multiple 20-30 yard strikes with zip on them. He's going to be a star with all of those ankle breaking missed tackles. Unless Nix or Rattler are interested, I wouldn't actively seek a transfer.
Cincinnati doesn’t need a portal qb, they have a highly recruited 4* backup who’s a redshirt freshman who looks extremely capable. Whereas we do not have any capable, we NEED a portal qb who will most likely start right away. Which is why I believe we should get a pretty decent and known name. I for one would like Bo Nix in AAC competition or his backup Finley (if either transfers). Nix never gained confidence, he will get it in this dogshit league and he’ll sell socks.
Cincinnati is in a good situation. Having a backup QB going into next year that already has 2 years in the system is ideal. Starting a true freshman QBs is going to be risky with a steep learning curve to be ready for the speed and competition of the game.
