Stanback dismissed from team

I said this yesterday. The program is in shambles. This is far, far worse of a position than we were in at the end of 2003. Hey, at least we have our APR!

Realistically, Stanback wasn't a big contributor this season. We still don't know what he was kicked off the team for. If he couldn't get his act together and was violating team rules, I don't see that as a specific sign the team is in shambles. It speaks more as an issue with Stanback directly. Either way -- more bad news.

Based on his comments in the past, it sounds like there were probably workouts, outside of practice hours, he was missing (like weight room sessions).
If that's the case, then so be it. You can't have players on the team that are going to extinguish the competitive fire that drives teammates to work harder. Doesn't matter if you're 3-0 and he's the worst player or 0-3 and the best player.

This should help solidify the upcoming 0-12.

We need to medically redshirt Holman next
Did his timetable change? He'll be back in less than a month. If this team can somehow muster wins against Tulane and UConn, he'll be ready for the stretch run.

He broke a finger on his throwing hand. I seriously doubt he's only out 2-4 weeks. This is (AD) GOL trying to mitigate the fanbase throwing in the towel on the season. In 1-3 weeks, it will be that his recovery time isn't progressing as fast as they'd hope, but 1-2 weeks more. rinse. repeat. end of season.

If we can't beat FIU with Holman, how in the world would we beat Tulane and UCONN?
FIU, is as good if not better than Tulane and probably close to UConn's level. Plus those games are 3 weeks away and 3 weeks worth of reps to the young QB's.

Just sayin', it's not improbable we are 2-4 and 2-0 in conference when Holman returns.

As for winning with Holman, I'm holding out a small sliver of hope that their attempt to run a high octane, no huddle offense with him against Stanford will be more the norm with how piss poor the running game is again.

It protruded through the skin. It will be more like 6 weeks.

Funniest Tweet so far: "I'm quite jealous that the only person who's going to be enjoying this #UCF football season now is William Stanback."

"As for winning with Holman, I'm holding out a small sliver of hope that their attempt to run a high octane, no huddle offense" Man I hope you are right but we have WR's that are Freshmen, playing with a darn cast, or ex fullbacks/QB's switched to WR that doesn't help any QB.

I bet his APR was low and that is why. Since, you know, that's all that matters to a football coach.
Is he being allowed to finish school?

According to the dismissal, it was for violation of athletic rules.
That tells me that he may be still allowed to finish school.

Hoping Brandon has the skinny.

No big deal, he wasn't very good this or last season. McGowan and Wilson are much better.
I'm more concerned about his future than ours.

He lost his offer from Syracuse when his the coach moved on. He came to us, thanx to people pitching him to GoL via his Long Island roots. He had no other offers. I met some of his extended family at the Temple game 2 years ago.

I'm hoping the "athletic" phrasing is so he can still finish school.

He's getting an education for free, if he wants to waste that I have no sympathy for him. Hopefully he gets his priorities straight but I'm losing sleep over a kid throwing away that opportunity.

GoL is usually good about getting the degree, unless the kid really screwed up, or the "athletic violation" was actually academics and he has little choice.

People forget the backstory on Jeff Godfrey, which GoL refused to disclose, and it only came out later via back channels. GoL doesn't throw kids under-the-bus, especially when it comes to their education. We've even let them hold on to scholarships, even after being removed from the team, athletic-wise.

Hence I'm hopeful Stanback can still finish here, or at least transfer athletically, and finish his academics there.

He isn't going to be throwing away an education. He talented enough that another school will bring him in. He just has to be smart enough to take advantage of his second opportunity.

Ugh.., first 0-3 and now my favorite player is a pothead and is gone
Is it 2016 yet?
As I said before ...
The seniors run the team ... and we're really short on seniors, let alone starting ones.

And who says 2016 will be any better?

I've only stated that a program has to actually let time pass to see what it actually has. Speculation is just that. If 2016 rolls around, and we start to look like another losing season is upon us -- which would be the first ever, back-to-back, then it means the GoL program has finally failed us.

I cannot help it if other people cannot recognize that speculation is a poor argument, and it's extremely difficult to argue with the results of the GoL program versus any G5, sans Boise. But apparently there are those who would argue we would have done better with any of those other coaches and programs that did not do remotely as well as the GoL program?

If I'm a "nuthuggers," then Steve Orsini had a lot to do with that. I wasn't big on GoL coming to Orlando. But if the co-captain of a Notre Dame NC team could sell me on why UCF needed the GoL program, then I figured he'd be the most objective guy of any.
