State of the Union Address

For the first time in ages, our annual State of the Union address is not in January. The date hinges on when the Speaker of the House extends an invite. It is constitutionally-mandated so it has to happen but Mike Johnson thought he'd be clever and delay it.

Thanks to Speaker Johnson's brilliant ploy, President Biden will be able to use the timing of this year's SOU address to kick-off the general election campaign. It will be interesting to listen tonight and see how he explains away the horrible mess the country is in since The Glory Years of Donald Trump, right guys?

You know what's funny, the first president to give a speech on the radio was in the 1920s, and tv was 1939. In other words, for most of our countries history people never heard or saw a president speak, they read the speeches. But now, appearance is all some people care about.

It's not at all, a president dying in office is a president dying office, not sure why the reason matters. But FDR died during WW2, and somehow we still won the war, if you like that example better.

Objectively, he did a decent job last night. I will have to read a fact check of his speech, but I am sure it's no more or less honest than other Presidents throughout the years. Whomever instructed him to go at a frenetic pace to minimize the jeering and shouting from the gallery deserves a raise.

The Republican rebuttal by Sen. Britt was 100% vomit inducing, however. Not so much as what she had to say, but the fukcing drama, Oscar-Award delivery, FFS.

The response speeches are tough to do, but yeah, she came across as an untrained actress auditioning for her first play or movie. Not sure who coached her, but they missed the mark by quite a bit.
