Stimulus bill

I disagree with any size check for those not hurt financially. Yes that includes me.

The deadline has passed on the unemployment benefits. Even if Trump eventually decides to quit jerking Congress around and signs the bill, it's now likely now there will be a disruption in the checks.

In the midst of a pandemic with so many people out-of-work and hurting, that's unconscionable. I would hope that this is one of those rare times when everybody here can agree.

He's busy playing golf and slapping Mitch's pee pee.

1. They shouldn't wait until the last minute to send government funding bills through

2. It never should have been tied to the covid bill.

1.) They is Mitch McConnell. The House passed a Covid bill and budget last summer. This is Trump's budget of what his team negotiated.

2.) The bills weren't tied together. The government was due to shutdown on Monday if a new appropriations bill wasn't passed. The covid bill was negotiated by the Trump administration and a group of Republicans & Democrats in the Senate because they didn't want to leave before Xmas without the American people getting relief. There is also a separate National Defense Authorization that needs to be signed in order to pay the military.

Trump is the one who conflated the appropriations to the covid relief bill. There is a $1.4T omnibus spending bill and a $900B Covid relief bill, which breaks down like this:

• $325 billion in aid to small businesses (includes Paycheck Protection Program)

• $120 billion for unemployment assistance ($300 a week for 11 weeks)

• $82 billion for education (such as K-12 education grants)

• $56 billion for health care (includes funding for states to do COVID-19 testing)

• $45 billion for transportation (includes payroll support program for airline workers)

• $83 billion for other spending (such as rental assistance, nutrition programs)

• $40 billion for other tax cuts (such as the Extend and Expand Employee Retention Tax Credit)

This fiasco really says it all about how much Trump cares about all those 'Real Americans' who support him.

Screw 'um all if it means he can give Mitch McConnell a big "FU" as he leaves office.

If he cared about helping the folks who've been hit hard economically by covid, why in the world did he wait until now?
Have you been on another planet?? Did he not want to open up “the economy” in April only to have the real selfish people like yourself criticize it??

You only have about 100 posts about this

Are you delusional or just senile? 😊😊😊

So... why did he want to open up the economy in April?? That move helped the average American immensely, but potentially lost him the election. So much for your sick and twisted TDS-based argument

Have you been on another planet??
Apparently one of us has.

How anyone can STILL defend Trump's pandemic response this past year is beyond belief.

The very notion that somehow Trump "immensely helped average Americans" by encouraging states to prematurely reopen is the stupidest thing I've heard here in quite a while. It's similar to Trump's refusal to sign the stimulus bill. I'd love to hear whatever twisted logic you've got for spinning that Presidential act into "helping average Americans immensely."

YOU ARE ON ANOTHER PLANET. Aren’t we talking about the stimulus bill and caring about financial well-being of Americans???

You literally are mentally incapable of staying on a topic

Obviously, you just topped it with something even more “stupid” as I personally know people in the restaurant business who were “saved” by this move. Not a few, but hundreds.

Delusional.

Personally know optometrists and their employees and other non-essential health care workers.

Delusional

Personally know people in the furniture business

Delusional

Do I need to go on?

$600 is an absolute joke. It’s becoming a waste of time. It POSSIBLY HELPS AN AMERICAN FOR A WEEK OR 2

It needs to be much, much higher

Got it?

The lockdowns were an economic tool. They needed a way to create demand for dollars. Trump has been trying to devalue the dollar for 4 years and the banks couldn't stand for it anymore.

Aren’t we talking about the stimulus bill and caring about financial well-being of Americans???
......which the President is refusing to sign.

If this is all about upping the support to $2000, why did the President bring it up AFTER the bill was passed? His Secretary of Treasury has been involved since the beginning, so why didn't it come up during the negotiations?

You do know that $2000 is the amount that Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats in the House wanted all along, right? Seems like if this is what Trump wanted too, this deal should have been struck back in October or November.

On the other hand, if this was about sticking it to Mitch McConnell and his Senate colleagues for 'daring to acknowledge' that Biden won in the Electoral College and showing Trump such disloyalty, this White House crap suddenly makes sense.

Can you show me the link to these “facts”
😊

Raise it to $2,000 and he will sign.
$2000> $600.

Here was the moment that Moscow Mitch pissed off Trump:

$2000> $600.
If $600 was peanuts to Trump AFTER the bill was passed, where the hell was the President when Congress was negotiating this for crying out loud??!?

This is a case of Trump giving a big FU to all the Republicans who supported his BS all the way until the Electoral College vote was announced. He's trying hard to get the two Democrat Senate candidates elected in Georgia so he can tell Mitch and Company that they're nothing without him.

Its an F-U to the entire system, not just Republicans or McConnell. He has exposed them for what they really are. You can maintain your belief that democrats really care about you and Republicans want you to starve, but deep down you know that none of them really care about your life.

This tells me nothing. You’re assuming a lot. The POTUS NOW wants $2000. Why is this so hard to believe. When you get the $2,000, please send me the excess $1,400

Too late. Sign the bill and sign another $1400 bill tomorrow.

What's the excuse for shutting the government down? What's the excuse for not paying the troops?

Best thing that he ever did. We should have NEVER been locked down. A wasted 3 weeks of a half-ass lockdown hurt a lot of people and ultimately accomplished nearly nothing

Hindsight is 2020. I was shutdown for 7 weeks.

Wow. A whole $600. Should help buy groceries for 2-3 weeks or pay for a one bedroom apartment for a month in a slum. What a joke. Why even bother?

Sounds like a guy who doesn’t care:

“As President, I have told Congress that I want far less wasteful spending and more money going to the American people in the form of $2,000 checks per adult and $600 per child,” Trump said in a statement issued by White House Deputy Press Secretary Judd Deere on Sunday. “Much more money is coming. I will never give up my fight for the American people!”

And they had to wait an extra week to get it. $600 is better than nothing.

$600 had already been passed. If he really wanted $2000 then he should have been engaged in the negotiations months ago. This stunt accomplished nothing except creating doubt and chaos. Terrible leadership. SAD!

100%. If he really gave two shits about this he would have gotten his fat ass off of the golf course and off of Twitter where he is still bitchin about the election results that he lost fair and square and cut one of his self-proclaimed great deals. This is nothing more than a stunt, but his brain dead army will froth about it and say “wow, look how much he loves this country. Best president we’ve ever had. A true fighter!!!”

So shut the government down!
Since when does no free cash payouts, to people not even financially effected by the virus, = shut the government down? The government has no money, borrowing from Peter to pay Paul, rarely works out in the long run.

Not signing the bill= shutting the government down. A or B.

I agree.

I just find it curious the party of fiscal conservatism (coming next January to a TV screen near you!) thought borrowing from Peter to pay Paul was super-cool when it was a tax break for the wealthy.

The only difference between the ‘socialism’ of the Democrats and the ‘capitalism’ of the GOP is who the giveaways benefit.

Lmao. They've shut it down for numerous pissing contests in the past--all of which seem quite secondary to helping out countless people in this country who need help due to this pandemic.

This relief should have come months ago but it once again shows the lack of foresight and leadership from Donald, who is more interested in producing movies of himself walking up stairs at the WH, golfing, tweeting, and acting like a got damn fool.
