They’ve been escalating in a self-feeding loop. Many of them actually believe that Republicans are moving farther right and thus they must fight harder and harder. In reality, the Republican platform has steadily moved left over the decades, a fact they subconsciously acknowledge when they say “see Republicans waste money too,” but never quite fully admit.

Meanwhile, Republicans know they’ve given ground again and again and are finally starting to realize that it will never be enough. Thus Trump happens. We’ve seen the beginning of the pushback in the last 4 years; the next 2 will tell if the party fights or fades.

If Republicans kept moving to the right and not towards the middle, why has there been consistent and visible increase in the number of republicans polled who support same sex marriage?

Meanwhile, the left is moving further left, with a handful of self-described socialists now holding seats in the House of Representatives.

We have gone so far left that we have productive taxpayers paying for an elective sex change... is now concerned normal.

Pretty bizarre isn't it. If you oppose just the part about it being taxpayer funded, you're a far right loon. I'm pretty sure that being on the far right would mean something like totally banning sex change operations and therapy regardless of who is paying for it.
