UCF got faster this past Saturday.
South Dade offensive lineman Boman Swanson, who can run a forty-yard dash in a hair over five seconds, committed during an unofficial visit just days after landing his offer. The 6-foot-4, 275-pounder fits exactly what Scott Frost is looking for at that position.
"As soon as I saw UCF was bringing in Coach Frost and that offense, I knew I wanted to be part of the team," Swanson said. "He was telling me how we're going to go fast and he wants linemen that can move. He's bringing the Oregon offense to UCF. I'm very excited. I think we'll be able to score a lot of points and win a lot of games."
Swanson became the first offensive lineman to commit in the 2016 class, though junior college prospect Christian Beard did come on board one day later.
"(Frost) talked about me playing tackle, but also said I could play all three positions," Swanson said. "I can snap or play guard. Whatever gets me on the field the quickest."
He originally thought about committing over the phone, but with the dead period coming up he wanted to squeeze in a visit so he could do it in person.
"We got up early and drove up on Saturday morning and right away had a meeting with Coach Frost," Swanson said. "My dad and I sat down with him for maybe 15 minutes and during the conversation he asked if I wanted to be a Knight and I said, 'Yes, absolutely!' I think they knew that's what I wanted to do because I had told the coaches that I planned on coming up to do just that. We shook hands on it and then went on the tour."
Swanson has visited UCF in the past, but never as a visiting recruit so it was his first time seeing the facilities up close.
"Having a nice stadium on campus is a big plus," Swanson said. "I loved the weight room. I love to spend time in the weight room working out. That was great. The indoor facility was nice. I love how everything is real close to each other."
His official visit was confirmed for Jan. 15 which is when most of the commits will be there. Swanson's teammate, running back Jawon Hamilton, may also be in Orlando that weekend.
"I'm definitely talking to (Hamilton) about UCF," Swanson said. "I'm also starting to get to know some of the commits, like Dontay Mayfield."
Swanson, who also had offers from FAU and Western Kentucky, will participate in the upcoming Dade County North vs. South All-Star Game as well as the Dade vs. Broward game.
In a little more than six months, he'll be on campus.
"I love UCF," Swanson said. "It's gonna be great. I definitely want to help turn the program around and get to a big bowl game, see if we can get ranked again. I want to work on getting my degree. I plan on majoring in business."
