Taggert gone to Oregon

I think part of the reason Taggart was in such in a rush to get out of USF is bc mid season last year there was pressure from a few Boosters then their AD Harlan told him to change the offense or he was getting fired.
Taggart must have spent 2 nanoseconds before bolting. There was zero upside to not taking the money, fame, competition, athletic budget, king of the hill status, golden parachute in the offer. He'd worked miracles for USF.

We'll get another HC. My concern is that nobody understands our offense. Over time it will be harder for Temples, Memphis', USFs to replace good coaches. Houston and UCF are in the driver's seat if we can make good decisions. USF is a crappy job. UCF and Houston are not. You only leave those 2 programs for the pinnacle of P5 which doesn't come around often. Nobody is leaving UCF to go to Baylor or Oregon unless we are about to fire them. Tom Herman could afford to wait for the right opportunity to present itself, Fuente, Rhule and Taggert could not, they had to get off of the bus.

That's fine if you think UCF is a better job than USF (I could argue otherwise, but thats what makes us fans of our respective schools), but what are you smoking to consider taking the Oregon job is just "getting off the bus". Oregon, the school that has played in 2 National Championship games in the last 7 years, finished in the top 11 for seven straight years between 08-14, multiple PAC 12 championships, multiple Fiesta Bowl/Rose Bowl victories, funded by NIKE themselves essentially....yeah, thats just taking whatever opportunity with them. They are either the top job, or second best job, in the PAC 12. One of the top 15/20 jobs in all of college football.

umm no. Historically Washington is a better Program.

Oregon has unlimited money but they rose at a perfect time when USC was on Probation. That job is not as attractive as it seems bc of the location. Rhule turned them down for Baylor

And don't forget historically-strong UCLA, the two Arizona teams, and Stanford. Now newer adds Utah and Colorado are showing their strength, too. It's arguably the most balanced conference, which makes Oregon's and now Washington's dominance so much more amazing.

Recruiting makes Oregon a tough job.

You're right. But they're right next to the bottomless California recruiting market. I checked Michigan roster when we played them, and Wolverines had almost no in-state recruits in their starting lineup.

Arizona State just got Blake Barnett from Alabama and some good skill talent. The Pac12 will be a fun conference to watch next season, there are no easy outs

Michigan has Detroit, Chicago and all of Ohio just a car ride away.

How are we going to get Willie back for that late touchdown now???

Bet Frost takes a "recruiting visit"'to Willie's house

Oregon is close enough to California. Their issue isn't location anymore.

They issue is everyone else is copying the stuff that made them cool. The uniforms, the fast paced style of offense, the hi-tech stuff. Why go all the way to Oregon to get the same experience at just about a ton other schools?

and just look around the conference. Tempe seems like a lot more fun than Eugene, the winters in the Pacific Northwest are depressing. Don't let the Oregon Cheerleaders fool you, their student body does not resemble them

There's a reason "Animal House" was shot at UOregon: it was the perfect party school and theirs was the only administration in the nation clueless enough to allow filming of a movie that would forever mark their campus as a stereotype [true story].

At least Rhule and Herman delivered conference titles before bolting. Sad that Taggart has never won a conference division or bowl game.

taggart to get 3.5 million a year. That is no brainer to leave. Plus to get away from genshaft an added bonus.
I said several days ago, that if Frost goes 8-4, he needs to make 3-3.5 million.

That's not crazy money at Oregon. We
CAN and COULD HAVE matched that.

I was money with that one.

1,7 million. No way

You have to also pay assistants.

I think that we can and will. GOL made 2.2-2.3 negotiated a few years ago.
The tricky part these days is the length of the contract. A longer term contract used to be a bargaining point for coaches for job security (like with GOL). With up an coming coaches, it can make a coach too expensive to be bought out. In addition, Taggart and the former Houston coach get none of those contract buyout millions that Oregon and Texas had to spend. Meanwhile, less wealthy athletic programs like Houston and USF (and Temple, I presume) pocket a buyout windfall that can fund the hiring of a top-notch new coach and his staff. Nobody seems to mention these whole new market dynamics.
