Can players retroactively apply a redshirt?

Wondering bc JRP is designated as a senior in the UCF roster.

But in 2021, only played in 4 games for Ole Miss.

Can he apply a red shirt to 2021? If so, this would give him 2 years of eligibility after this season. His redshirt senior year and the +1 year for covid.

Im not 100% sure but i think if you play 4 or less you can retroactively add that designation

I don’t think we need him 2 more years. Not sure how good he is at baseball , but if he gets drafted after this year he may have a decision to make. I doubt he gets drafted in football.

My assumption is that he wants to play QB in the B12. If he tears it up this year at QB, maybe he's allowed to miss spring for baseball. That gives TC all of the reps and prepares him for when JRP leaves.

I don't think Gus let's him stay as QB if he plays baseball. I think that gives TC time to get ahead.

He already said hes playing baseball and he doesnt do any football stuff during baseball season. He skips spring practice. While on football scholarship.

I thought if you didn't play 4 or more games, then you were considered a Red Shirt. That was how they talked about it preCOVID. I know prior to about 2013/6, it was if you played at all you lost your Red Shirt then it moved to 4 games or less. I didn't think you had to specify if was a RS season. Though he should be able to transfer and play another season somewhere else with no penalty.

Though I think next year is going to be tough as we have at least 5 QBs looking to challenge JRP for the starter position. We have Keene, McClain, Bohn, Castellanos, & Hansel. That is predicated on the fact we don't pick any new guys up or move someone from the scout team.

There’s no way Keene stays and none of the walk ons are going to truly compete for the QB job against JRP TC and McClain. We also have another scholarship QB recruit in Rizk coming in (if he follows through on his commitment).

I think an important distinction here…

-Are you sure Plumlee only played in four games in 2021, or did you just look at his stats/game logs from 2021 where he logged a statistic? Because you may need to dig deeper and check out participation reports. He very well could have been on the field while not accumulating any stats for that particular game (hence possible played in more than four games, hence no redshirt that year)…

I’m fairly positive he’s listed correctly as a true senior. Only way he would be back under center in ‘23 is if he opts for his extra COVID year.

If you look at a season summary, and it says 4 games, then the guy played 4 games, stats or not.

Smart. I just looked up on ESPN where he logged some stat. I don't know about the other games

From what I have read, he is a true senior (which he won’t be using his redshirt this year obviously) with the option to use the Covid year to return next year. So 2 years of eligibility if he chooses, which I assume he does since he won’t be drafted and seems to be enjoying the heck out of quarterbacking.

Hate to even mention it but possible additional year of eligibility IF he is injured next game (only 4 games played) or gets an injury waiver for this year.
