Thank you GOL

I will continue to hate on UCFAA until they properly recognize donors and build the local community into UCF supporters.

GOL was just a piece of the pie.

Had some great times watching UCF Baseball with Coach O'Leary. Sitting down the right field line and NOT talking football. Just watching a game we both enjoyed. I, for one, will miss him. Good Luck Coach!

Thanks GOL for elevating UCF to the national stage. Thanks for providing us a program that has stood for so much more than just wins and losses. You have left UCF as a highly desirable place for our next coach to inherit.

That started with Orsini, not O'Leary, who was also a Orsini hire.

Glad it's over finally and sending (soon) idiot Key away. Very telling that they leapfrogged over Key and Bresnahan to Barrett for interim. Many good times with GOL...but many not so good as well.
That was probably O'Leary's call...again he did the right thing in the situation...just saying.

I want to thank George for building the UCF program. He took a 7 year old d1 program who played in off campus stadium and nobody knew about and built them in a top G5 program. He was always very good to the real fans and like me called out all the fake fans of other schools. FIW. He personally taught me a ton about football like FCC, man vs zone blocking, all the LB reads, which foot to cut on, Odd defensives schemes, reading olinemens first step, how to develop a game strategy and a bunch of other stuff. I was shocked to hear that Marcus Mariota didn't know who Mike, Will and Sam are. That's basic stuff in a conversation with George. Gorge will always be a UCF legend in my eyes.

Could very well have been considering primarily Key was the big part of this ending. But he was, after all, GOL's golden boy. Still lies squarely on George.

Coach,
Thanks for all you have done for our University as already enumerated by prior posters, both on the field and in the classroom. Sharing that night with my family in Glendale was one of the special experiences of my life. My son and I followed you to Ireland for my first trip abroad. And then there were the other Bowl Games (sorry, couldn't make Hawaii) and other away game trips over the years. There were special moments at the Citrus Bowl (the Houston noise game against Briles comes to mind) but some of the really special moments came in our own house, the house you helped build. Then there were the Coaches Caravans/Hometown Huddles, Fan Fests and LWG's. I haven't always agreed with you but respect what you did for our university. Enjoy your retirement and be proud of your legacy.

When I went to UCF I thought it was amazing that an away game was televised on ESPN. It was big news that we got a vote for top 25... not IN the top 25, a VOTE. Going to a bowl game, ANY bowl game, was a fantasy.
GOL (and Hitt) moved Central Florida from a program only hardcore gamblers knew about to UCF, a household name. He leaves a HC job that is certainly the best G5 opportunity and better than most P5s, considering he basically inherited UTSA that's miraculous in just over a decade.

GOL did lots for the program. He took what fans dreamt about and turned them into expectations - conference championships, bowls, rankings, drafted players, games on TV, etc..

He maintained a high APR, his kids rarely got in trouble, and he recruited kids with good character. He was old school and many people hated that, but I appreciated the way he ran the program. It didn't matter who you were. If you broke the rules, you were punished.

No matter how you feel about GOL, I really believe he gave all he had to UCF.

Thanks Coach! I remember I was a junior at UCF when he took over. It was exciting and it finally started to open up our eyes to the potential of UCF. From when he was hired and what we have now is night and day. He put UCF on the map. Now we have the facilities and tradition that hopefully the next coach can take even further. Now its our job to get behind the Knights and support our school! #BeatUSF.

Thanks coach, as a fan watching since 1984 you did more than I ever could have hoped for from UCF. Please forgive some of our sorry fans who don't know how good they have had it for the last 10 years. They did not have to suffer the mess that came before you. thank you for tuning UCF into a REAL football program, not a place for wishful thinking.
