Changing the name to the Allstate Big12 Conference will not cause B12 teams to fail to compete for a national championship.Winning is what matters, but name recognition goes a long way. Just look at the preseason polls every year, programs with name recognition get the benefit of the doubt for decades. Allstate conference doesn't have any of those teams.
If Allstate conference fails to have a team compete for the national championship for the next 5-10 years. They will end up with the same reputation as PAC-12 and possibly fate.
The teams in that conference know how to penetrate the backfieldIf we want a sponsor that really stands out, how about the Trojan Big XII?š
Agreed. UCF is going to need 20-22 million A YEAR to pay itās players in the not-so-distant future. That fact alone is going to separate the men from the boys in CFB. Any program that canāt afford that kind of number will be self-selecting themselves out of any top tier discussions.Take the money, the logo XII is the brand.
That name is hard to swallow*If we want a sponsor that really stands out, how about the Trojan Big XII?š
Hoping they donāt lock themselves in to a contract longer than 5 years. Would suck to sign for 10 years and realize you could have received a lot more in 2 years.Agreed. Personally, I think the XII would be underselling itself for 3 mil per team. But Yormark is smart to explore all options to raise revenues. Any new money UCF can get to help offset its looming budgetary expectations down the road is a start.
Every sports league contract nowadays in a gamble. You want it long enough to secure some financial stability but -- as we've seen -- in today's ever-changing landscape, you don't want to lock yourselves into a bad deal either.Hoping they donāt lock themselves in to a contract longer than 5 years. Yep, putting a valuation on a 20% stake in the open market has a high risk/reward.....Problem is there is no metric to gauge what we should get in terms of revenue. Nobody has sold their conference name rights.
I trust BY will get us a good deal. I don't really care about this, I'm more concerned about the news that they may be entertaining selling a 20% stake to venture capitalists/private equity firm.
selling 20% of the conference is the kind of short term thinking that all the decision makers involved will agree with and then later on they're trashing the conference commish like they weren't involved in it when everyone is trying to abandon ship because of this bad deal. see larry scott and the pac 12 network (and even the acc and this long term ESPN deal). don't make long term mistakes because of a nice cash payout in the short term. always remember that private equity firms are smarter than you.Problem is there is no metric to gauge what we should get in terms of revenue. Since no one knows the details of any potential deal, no one is in a position to declare whether it is a good idea or not.selling 20% of the conference is the kind of short term thinking that all the decision makers involved will agree with and then later on they're trashing the conference commish like they weren't involved in it when everyone is trying to abandon ship because of this bad deal. see larry scott and the pac 12 network (and even the acc and this long term ESPN deal). don't make long term mistakes because of a nice cash payout in the short term. always remember that private equity firms are smarter than you.
It won't cause teams not to compete. It does establish a market value for the conference, which by all accounts seems to be relatively low and the sentiment is "It's better than nothing." We'll see how everything plays out, but right now I think this is setting up for the SEC/B10 to establish a bigger gap. When we start hearing SEC/B10 being offered 5x-10x.Changing the name to the Allstate Big12 Conference will not cause B12 teams to fail to compete for a national championship.
On the contrary, even if it is only $2 - $3 million per year, it's $2 - $3 million we didn't have before to pay players when that goes into effect in the next year or two.
No one is giving the ACC a deal until the status of FSU/Clemson/N Carolina is figured out.It won't cause teams not to compete. Right now would anyone be surprised if ACC came out and got a matching or better deal than that, nevermind the two big conferences?
You're thinking of usfUCF about to be sponsored by Waste Management. The Waste Management logo will appear on the 50 yard lineā¦also on UCF football, basketball and baseball uniforms.
30-50m annually is 1.875-3.125m per school. that's not enough to whore ourselves out in this manner. i have no problem with us whoring ourselves, but at the right price. we're classy escorts, not streetwalkers.
.... ziltch !!!If the goal is to generate discussion about money and nothing related to football and athletics they nailed it. UCF had a lot of controversy that made some headlines for stadium naming rights, but don't think that generated any buzz for the program itself.
I agree that college sports is big business. But I don't agree the P2 are trying to relegate the ACC and XII.Like it or not, college sports is business. The P2 is trying to relegate both the ACC and B12 to the equivalent of G5 status. You either fight to find a way to stay relevant, or you accept your role as an irrelevant entity.
