The cupboard was bare when GOL went 0-11 in 2004

And that was coach K's fault and he set the program back and blah blah blah. GOL was given an automatic pass to lose every game because it was the previous coaches fault.

Well now whose fault is it? You nuthuggers have such vitriol for a coach that actually had UCF playing above their talent level, yet fawn all over the guy that has underperformed his entire life as a coach.

O'Leary took 2 future NFL WRs in Brandon Marshall and Mike Walker and put them on defense in 2004. :chairshot:

Total NFL players on that winless team:

Mike Walker
Brandon Marshall (NFL All-Pro / Pro Bowl)
Alex Haynes
Darcy Johnson
Josh Sitton (NFL All-Pro / Pro Bowl)
Paul Carrington
Leger Douzable
Matt Prater (NFL All-Pro / Pro Bowl)

didn't we also have a guy named Mike Merrit who went to the NFL and barely saw the field at UCF?
Edit: Looked him up, we used him, one game he had 3 receptions. In 04 he played special teams 7 times.

The biggest damnation of george is that right now some of his former players have come our and said this team looks poorly coached.

Ummm ... how many MAC Divisional Titles and Championships did Coach K give us? Now how many did GoL in C-USA ... and the AAC?

It's funny how you "Garbage Men" will say "stop with the (insert UCFBS logical argument)," all while expecting us to look at only the down games and years.

Hey guys ... be careful what you wish for. If all you're going to do is look at down years, then expect to have more of them.

Which is funny, because I had a coworker see O'Leary at Bonefish Grill with a table full of recruits and they were being ignored the whole time.

You mean we was pulling a Tubberville and ignoring the recruits or no one was paying attention to the table?

I never subscribed to this 'cupboard bare' nonsense around the 2004 season. Just another example of lack of leadership development on GOL. I respect a lot on what GOL has done for the program, but sometimes I feel he runs it like a 'business' just a little bit too much. It's ok to give that kind of lip service to the press, especially when it is a business... for him anyways and his $2M a year. But for an 18 year old kid, that's not a great way to light a fire in the belly.

To his credit, I've seen at least a little more fire from GOL last couple years, so it's gotten better, but still NGE.

Ummm ... then you weren't around the program.

Players getting drunk, regularly.
Players not going to class.
Players finally kicked off.
Yet more players -- 20 I believe in total -- kicked off when GoL came in.
Defense so bare ... Brandon Marshall was playing defensive back in 2004.

Oh, GoL took the job in late 2003 ... then had a heart attack in the middle of the recruiting season. Although that is more literally his fault, it's still a factor.

Huh? What?

He's old skool. He's also been roasted heavily since '01, repeatedly so. So I fully expect him to be very careful with the press, only opening up in more years. Especially since the Orlando Slantinel has been so unkind to him ... until only very recent years.

Heck, I still remember a parent of a student-athlete talking to me about how the Slantinel trashed their kid's name -- their family name. GoL made them feel better, just by smiling and saying a few words. Because GoL does literally know how it feels to be on that end, especially with the MO at the Slantinel, let alone national papers.
