Good
Tre'Quan Smith- He's the real deal. He made some nice catches last night for us. He also stepped up his game towards the end
Jordan Akins- Still kind of weird for a WR..but he was very productive
Caleb Houston- Literally was the MVP of the first half. His punting helped us with field position.
Rush Defense (DT's) I thought they had good surge all night
Bad
Chris Johnson (3rd WR)- created little to no separation..we really needed another threat in the receiving game
Fans-obviously this isn't the place to bash the fans..but my gosh did BHNS clear out during the 3rd and beginning of the 4th quarter..disgusting to see..there wasn't much buzz at all (but then again the team didn't give us much to cheer for)
Will Stanback- supposed to be the man..in the doghouse again..slow as ever
Defensive Ends- no pressure..way to show up. Luke Adams is garbage
Ugly (and I mean very ugly)
Offensive Line- One of the worst performances I've ever seen from a UCF offensive line. 3rd and 1 felt like 3rd and 8 last night. And whoever was responsible for Holman's blindside got blown up 2-3 times last night.. that fortunately didn't lead to turnovers. Put in Chester Brown and Chavis Dickey please it can't get any worse. For a team that loves running the ball we really need to learn how to recruit athletic offensive linemen
Linebackers- Very slow..took terrible angles to the ball carrier..over ran guys a lot..just not quality stuff at all from that group
Chuck Breshanan- we gave up 391 yards against FIU first of all. Their QB was awful last year..we made him look very effective. And for the love of god why didn't we press their receivers. McGough is no world beater make him beat you deep. Anything more than 15+ yards didn't look good from him. But for us to play 10 yards off the ball the whole game is a joke. No awareness. Any D1 QB with some time can complete 5-10 yard slants all night
VERY VERY UGLY (special category for this travesty)
Brent Key/Last offensive drive- What the **** were we thinking on that last drive. Holman was picking them apart on the last drive. The way that was heading we would've scored a TD or at least got real close for a FG. To run 3 HB dives knowing 1.Stanback averaged 0.6 yards a carry and 2. you have a Freshman kicker who has never kicked a field goal in his college career (not to mention a game-winning one) with a long of 42 in high school is the most head-scratching thing in UCF football history. Not even exaggerating when I say whoever was responsible for game management there at the end should be seriously re-evaluated.
This loss absolutely kills the progress we've made in the last 3-4 years perception wise. You can thank Brent Key and company for not having a set of ***** and letting the offense actually take chances.
And don't even get me started with last year's opener. We started a D2 QB against Penn State who struggled to complete 10 yard passes. Not sure if you can find it in the archives but I called Dinovo getting benched for Holman during the PSU game right after the spring game. And I'm not getting paid 2 million dollars to make the decisions around here. I literally could make that call after 1 open practice and seeing both QBs in the spring game.
After the 2013 season I really stopped questioning O'Leary, but after last night I may have to reconsider. As much as I don't want to say it, we have gotten real lucky the last few years. (Memphis (2013), Temple (2013) , Houston (2014), ECU (2014), etc..
I do think this team will get better and become respectable towards the end of the season and 2016..but we really need to learn how to recruit an OL.
