2. OK, so that’s a bit harsh. But as a fan it’s just so frustrating that a week ago we were on top of the league, Also Receiving Votes, and getting mention as a possible at-large team. Then a maddeningly close loss away and then this…
3. And it looked so promising! After being down 11-6 early in the game, Donnie switches to our 2-3 zone, and we go on a 14-2 run and eventually the lead hits 12. 6 different players score down that stretch (and we hit 100% of our FTs!).
4. Then Josh, Marcus and Keith all get their 2nd PF, and the lead collapses to just 1 at the half.
5. Good to see former Kirk AC Craig Brown doing the color for CSS’s broadcast tonight!!
6. Southern Miss is one damn good basketball team. They took advantage our late 1st half foul troubles and made adjustments at halftime to counter our zone D. They executed their offense a little quicker, and we lost a small little bit of our intensity. And if anybody - ANYBODY!! - got in the paint they quickly double-teamed the ball.
7. Once again a great crowd! First time in 17 home games the crowd left early, though. At least that cleared out the post-game garage snarl.
8. Josh had a man-sized 1st half. 8 points, great post D and several rebounds. Just couldn’t overcome the foul trouble.
9. Dr. Hitt introduced new AD Todd Stansbury to the crowd at halftime, and Todd gave a very nice talk to the crowd. Good move!
10. What followed were 2 dance routines by young girls that made me feel creepy - and there was a 3rd one pre-game. But Knight Moves outfits were exquisite!!
11. We had zero answer for Watson & Dodson in the 2nd half. If Watson wasn’t draining 3’s, Dodson was killing us inside. And they both hit FTs down the stretch.
12. Not that it would have made any difference in the outcome, but we missed 4 completely uncontested layups tonight.
13. Look - we knew going into the season that Southern Miss would be a contender for league champs. They sure played like they were tonight! It also shows that with half of the conference season to go we have more work to do if we want to contend.
