This one's on Frost - no Plan B

I'm not going to be quick to judge them during the first year. I'll reserve that at the end. If they trend downwards then i can see what youre talking about. If theyre up and down and they lose to teams i expect them to lose to regardless of how fast their offense started, then i'll be fine with it. Its growing pains. Sorry i couldn't see Houston dropping 3 of 4 after their strong start. It wouldve been nice but it is what it is.

I believe in them as well, but they've got to be burning from the inside out if I've pegged their competitive spirits correctly. This is clearly going to be a growing year for Coach Frost, Milton and the program. In the end these experiences will make them and the program stronger. I personally like to see the passion in the fan base ignited, I credit coach Frost for that.

One last thing, did anyone else notice that Milton was telegraphing the plays? If it was going to be a run, just prior to the snap he would chew on half of his mouthpiece, if it was going to be a pass he would fully insert his mouthpiece into his mouth.

Interesting observation....

I did notice a lot of plays where he would just "chew" on his moutpiece (i.e. not put it in)...but didn't notice the plays he did put it in.

I said this in another post. It would be nice if Coach Frost mixed in some ball control drives to offset any inexperience especially if theyre leading by 2 tds for example and struggling but he's not going to do that. Coach Chin is on record saying if youre on defense, expect to play a lot.

Wow good catch. I wonder if Houston players noticed that

Someone needs to pass this observation to Milton & the coaching staff.

Don't need the Tulane D to be tipped off over something like that when they watch the tape

I might as well add this to the conversation. Who's fault is it when Milton backs up to throw but is usually flushed or taking his time?
Is this his style of play? It seems like thats what he goes directly too...forcing to scramble because thats what he's comfortable doing.
Or are the receivers not getting open. its not just Houston its games before that too.

Isnt that part of reading tendencies?

In my opinion, when Milton started struggling in the 3rd, Coach Frost should have put Justin Holman in for a drive or two and let him settle down. Also, our defense got tired in the 3rd and really tired in the 4th. They never got to rest between the quick turnovers.
i agree. A sort of undersized freshmanQB with a back up thats prototypical and has a strong arm and experience. Whats there to lose if youre up by a couple of scores but struggling?

I was really hoping to see Holman go in for a bit to try to stop the bleeding. He has his faults for sure, but he doesn't get sacked a lot. Houston wouldn't have been able to tee off on him the way they were on Milton.

I see Frost's coaching style as a fatal flaw with this personnel. There is no logical reason to continue going "UCFast" with a big lead in the second half, especially when: 1) you have an inexperienced offense and true freshman quarterback; and 2) your defense is getting more and more tired, to the point of exhaustion. That philosophy has directly contributed to the Maryland, Temple and Houston losses, all winnable games.

Boise and navy lose....western Michigan is in the drivers seat for a big boy bowl. Haven't seen them play yet but my guess is, like NIU, they are a Good team for who they are but will get destroyed in the trenches playing in a BCS bowl.

yeah a MAC team will get destroyed in an Access Bowl. They rarely have the talent in the trenches that teams like Houston have recruited who represented well in their Bowl vs Florida State

On the quick throws it seems to me that Milton is rushing it a bit. The ball leaves his hand and it just seems to come out kind of funky looking. I think the game is still happening fairly quick for him. After about 6 starts I am hoping the game starts to slow down for him and he gets more comfortable. For those who have made Manziel comparisons, Manziel was a redshirt Freshman when he took off. He had a year to adjust, at least in practice. Learning where he could scramble to and where he couldn't without getting into trouble. Milton has been kind of thrown to the wolves so to speak. Manziel also had a couple of first round draft picks blocking for him and some incredibly talented WR's to throw to.

No one knows if it would have worked...but it could have been a positive for both...i.e. Holman might have been able to get a drive going (i.e. Houston's Secondary wouldn't have been able to creep in the box so much as they would have had to respect Holman's arm strength, something they don't do vs Milton...as yesterday, I think his longest pass might have gone for 20 yds or so...as most of his throws were just 3-7 yds downfield), and maybe Milton, with help from his QB "Guru" and Frost could have showed him key aspects that he was obviously missing.

After seeing UCF not score vs Temple at home from the mid-2nd Q thru end of game...it didn't seem much of a gamble when UCF's offense got in quicksand on so many 2nd half drives yesterday to make a QB switch for a series or two....as Milton and everyone else was obviously "shaken" and had zero confidence.

Those come from UCF Coaching Staff....I hope they never EVER hear those words again...as Milton struggles to do even the basic things (i.e. can't complete a wide open screen pass or holding onto the ball) at times.

1) This offense is designed to get players in space. To me, that means a lot of short crossing routes, screens, getting the tight ends to run routes down the middle behind the linebackers and between the safeties. I don't see either happening!! 2) Mackenzie needs to stop running toward the sidelines. If he leaves the pocket he needs to go north/south not parallel to the sideline 3) Defensively, why don't our corners press the receivers instead of being 15 years off the line? That makes for an easy 8-10 yard pass each time

2) Milton did have a nice 12 yd run or so when he made a QUICK decision and ran immediately north/south but those decisions were too few and far between yesterday.

3) UCF DB's actually are in press coverage a lot (#31 was so close on a play he was called for offsides), but yes, on a lot of 3rd and long coverages...UCF DB's back way off...leaving some way too easy conversion for the opponents. (UH was 11-20 on 3rd down conversions why UCF was just 2-14).

what is this myth being created by KL and a few others that Holman is this steady hand that would have came in and not turned the ball over?

did you Monday Morning QBs remember the 2 absolutely idiotic interceptions he threw vs ECU trying to get their team back in the game?

or what? Coach Walters and Verdu can say whatever the hell they want to promote the kid when the networks are showing games, they know more about QBs than you do

Any Holman talk other than a 1-2 series to let MM see what is going on at this point is completely ridiculous. If we lose the last 4 with MM, then so be it. Again, any talk of Holman being the guy for the last 4 games of his career unless MM is injured or plays beyond scary completely discredits you IMO.

In last night's radio show, Coach Frost admitted that Milton was banged up and shaken in the 3rd by Houston's defense. With that said, what other player would be allowed to stay in the game with being visibly shaken and coughing up the ball a couple times? It was definitely coaching error not to yank him and put in a Senior QB that more than likely would have held the ball and able to at least punt the ball.

I'm not sure why UCF went all the way to Oregon to find a coach. There are obviously coaches on this board who could do a better job for free.
Thank you! I offered to coach them up last year after GOL left. You know that I am usually right most of the time, 100%.

I never knew there was so much football brain power in here.
Yes, if it wasn't for my day job, I would be offensive and defensive coordinator. I would save the school a lot of money

I did coach my son's Pop Warner team for 6 years.
You should ask SF to be in charge of special assignments with all that knowledge. We all know that coaching Pop Warner is the ultimate challenge. If you can coach little kids, you can coach big kids. If you can deal with parents, you can deal with disgruntled player tweets.

Lol, it's a good thing twitter didn't exist when I was coaching.
