Reading and viewing the many tributes posted yesterday to Otis, I saw several social media comments in the tributes to retire the 2. I woke up this morning with thoughts on how to HONOR Otis and the 2 instead. It's too easy for future generations to lose the connection to why a number was retired.
Certain numbers at some programs have special meeting. Why not honor Otis by making the 2 special? We alumni and fans could donate to endow a unique scholarship in Otis name. The team and coaches can decide each season if a player has demonstrated that same love of program, school and the game as Otis to honor Otis memory by wearing the 2, for a game or a season.
Should the program just retire the 2, or make it meaningful? There are people here with connections to the team, the coaches, the foundation, and the players. Is this or a similar idea the way Knight nation want to honor the memory of a player that touched many?
