Transfer Portal Frost v. Malzahn

As best I decipher it Malzahn brought in at least 15 players in the 2024 portal that only one year of eligibility.
So far Frost has brought in 1 Sr, 6 Jr's, 10 Sophs and 4 Frosh. The difference, Frost cares about the program, has some intelligence, Malzahn, well see for yourself.

Gus had a veteran team (scenario) and was only bringing in transfers with proven production (philosophy) and who were capable of winning now (year) because Gus was chasing a Big 12 title in 2024.

Frost is in complete rebuild mode (scenario) and is signing high ceiling guys (philosophy) who may not have NFL measurables (Lewis, Edwards) and/or proven production, and who may develop over time (year) because winning now is unlikely.

To my knowledge, Gus has never signed a transfer with no college stats.

Stop the care about the program stuff. Gus cared, the job of head coach simply outgrew him. A head coach today and 10 years ago are different animals. Gus is a good decent human being, He could have hit UCF up for more $$ and didn't, he could have forced his way out taking as much as 7 million with him, he didn't. As for Scott Frost we will know more in 3 years, is he the hot coach of 7 years ago, or the horrible one that coached Nebraska, or something in between.

my guess is in between. If he can run an exciting offense and not blow 21pt leads we should be able to win games.

there was selfish interest in Gus not getting fired and forcing the buyout. the optics of him getting fired are way worse than him ‘resigning’ to save his image bc he refuses to retire and he thinks he can coup Norvell. and it worked bc casual fans especially outside Florida fell for it.

There were rumors way before the season imploded that he was going for it bc he wanted the Arkansas job. The portal strategy backs that especially the QB pick, he wanted to say ‘look my offense won with KJ’. And it blew up in his face.
