I get your point, that democrats present security. It seems odd that if we have such a huge problem in these areas that those voters would want to continue down that road. The factory owner also provides security in that he'll keep paying you minimum wage but at some point doesn't a person say "what you are offering isn't good enough?".

There are two factories in town. One pays min wage and the other makes sure you can't ever get married. They don't really have a choice that's why its such a huge percentage that go with democrats.

There are republican gay people. Just like there are republican black men. Its not everyone but republicans have not only failed to offer anything worth switching for, but lately they have also used the oppression of these groups as a way to excite their base.
