Eliminates Federal funding to many programs, boost funding to Defense and Homeland Security, and despite promises to increase funding for infrastructure, it cuts the budget for the DOT by 13%

But it's not filibuster-proof.

I'm okay with the cuts but Defense not getting cuts and instead getting an increase is crazy to me. There's plenty of fat in Defense that could be trimmed.

Defense is a job they are to do. Education, isn't. The big problem is Medicaid , Medicare, Social Security, Disability, and welfare.

All against the backdrop of an increasingly defiant Russia, china, and now North Korea trying to beat their own war drums

The increase has been totally misrepresented since it's only 3% higher than what Obama had originally requested- when no one blinked an eye.

Also, this budget is purely a way to position themselves for the coming Congress negotiations. trump is putting forward this budget knowing he'll have to settle in the middle somewhere. This is merely his way of framing the discussions in terms of moving to the middle from this budget which will still end up with many things he wants.

Anyways why are you so scare of 3 countries who if they combined their military spending it still wouldn't be half of the US'? Especially since we have been out spending them 50+ years. We should be light years ahead of them with literally trillions more spent on our military.

With a budget of $500B, I think they may be able to find a couple dollars here and there. Closing our base(s) in Germany may be a good way to start

Never going to happen. The U.S Africa Command is based in Stuttgart Germany and is the launching point for all missions involving the continent except Egypt which falls under U.S Central Command.

If we get rid of bases overseas, how are we going to spread all the democracy? Certainly, other countries look at out elected officials and wish they could have what we have. Then they'll invite us to drone bomb them and put all their lawyers and oligarchs in charge. It's magical, really.

I don't listen to their news reporting, but the Planet Money podcast is worth it. But, it's also good enough that even without federal funding, a private company would probably scoop it up. Gimlet media comes to mind since it's run by a Planet Money alum.
