Central Florida is in trouble. A team once projected as at least a dark horse candidate to win a third straight American Athletic Conference title now appears like it will struggle just to reach .500.
The reason is simple. The Knights have no running game. None. And while Coach George O'Leary has been analyzing the problem, it goes much deeper than linemen missing assignments and backs not making the proper cuts.
Those are matters of technique and, with proper coaching, areas that can be improved. But when you watch the Knights try to run the ball, what you often see is backs who are very ordinary and linemen who are not physical enough to sustain the point of attack, at least not against good teams.
