Rivals has continued its partnership with Pro Football Focus (PFF) which grants me access to their comprehensive analytics and statistical tools.
After each game, two separate analysts grade every player on each play of the game and the two totals are averaged out. Obviously no subjective ranking system is perfect, but I am finding that my real world impressions of a player in a certain game usually reflects the PFF grade.
Unfortunately, this update will be a bit different than previous postings. I have been informed that PFF does not allow distribution of screenshots, which is what I had been doing to convey the full picture. I can editorialize the information I have access to, but no longer can I straight-up copy.
Overall Defensive Grades
Always curious who gets the top defensive grade, especially in a game with a heavy rotation, because it's not always as obvious as the offensive side. The top spot goes to DE Kalia Davis with a 91.9 (elite) grade, thanks to a sack and forced fumble.
And you know what? Through five games, Kalia Davis has the No. 1 season grade as well with a 90.5. He has seen significantly fewer reps than other players though - 2 through 5 on the list (for the entire season thus far) is Tay Gowan (78.4), Aaron Robinson (78.3), Randy Charlton (74.4) and Nevelle Clarke (71.1).
Now back to the UConn game.
