NOTE: Brent Dearmon, referenced in Bentley's post, was the head coach at NAIA's Bethel College and Jonathan Wallace was his OC.

Two of these guys meet Gus's assistant coaching criteria.

Kristi, who cares about “Gus’s assistant coaching criteria”? First of all, don’t waste your time mentioning candidates that are already employed in a P5 conference as a RB coach.

It’s not going to happen. It will be a cheap hire, like all the other ones Malhazan has made at UCF.

First, Tim Harris made more than each of these guys. I did my homework before posting.

Second, the "criteria" I was referring to is OLD and WHITE.

I should have known better than telling a joke that has to be explained to the likes of you.

Who gives a F,uck ?
Troll aside, I have full confidence in Gus landing an ELITE RB Coach.

He plucked Carnell Williams out of thin air. The dude was working at IMG Academy when Gus brought him to Auburn. Gus molded him into one of the nation's top running back coaches, even though he was one of the lowest paid assistants on Gus's staff ($1 to @LoboCane)

(Carnell made only $25k more than Tim Harris Jr. made last season.)

I think some of the top biggest names out there include...

But I could just as easily see Gus bring back Kam Martin from Incarnate Word. I wouldn't have a problem with Jonathan Wallace, Tim Horton, or Bobby Bentley for that matter.

“Elite” RB coach. Let’s revisit when the hire is made. The entire UCF football staff is underpaid but you believe Malhazan and Mohajir will break the bank on a RB coach. OK.

Also, whatever slim credibility you may have goes out the window when you reference a BBG list. He’s just a guy making random edits from his home. I hope you can at least figure that one out.

I don't blame them, until we start playing them and get some trash talk or something going, we are the new guy in the neighborhood that people aren't sure about yet :p

Gus will not disappoint with this hire. I think he will tap a former SEC or ACC running back as the position coach. There are some good ones out there just waiting for the right opportunity.

Just give it up Kristi. Gus will do this- Gus will do that. Too funny

Yeah, an “Auburn guy”. Are you really that dense you can’t figure it out?
Last time we looked, you are the one with half a brain lobotomy cane

Auburn makes contributions, you are just a fast food working troll who has no business being here. Did you even try to get into miami, or did you just drool all over the application?

From Gus's perspective...

Kam Martin will be loyal. Will know Gus's system inside and out. Will know his place on the staff. Will be able to relate to the players he coaches. And perhaps Kam's most overlooked advantage.... he, like Gus, is a Texas native and should be able to forge new relationships in Big12 country to expand UCF's recruiting footprint west.

From MY perspective...

Martin, like Addison Williams, is not ready, and the stage is too big and he will have a steep learning curve.

But hey what do I know?

Elite hire huh? You have as much credibility as a used doormat. It’s a cheap hire and that’s what anyone that understands college football was expecting.

Would be much better to have highly paid guys like Josh Gattis and Kevin Steele.

Stop embarrassing yourself with all the nonsense you post. One year experience as an analyst and one year experience as a RB coach for FCS Incarnate World. That’s it.

What en elite hire, exactly what you predicted in this thread? Welp.

RB coaches aren't that important, other than being able to recruit talent. Talent and depth makes that position. I've never heard any analysis of any college football team include the phrase, "Well, that new RB hire has made all the difference."

24k is a difference maker. He consistently puts kids into the NFL. 2 at fau in a singletary year.

24 K was at FAU from 2017-2019. Singletary was already there (completing his FR year in 2016). He had a monster year in 2017. In 2018 his stats regressed quite a bit...because they started also giving the rock to Kerrith Whyte (who had 866 yards to go along with Singeltary's 1348 yards in 2018). For the RB commitments from 2016-2019 (five) I don't recognize any other name, but I'm not an FAU fan. They may have gotten in a solid RB transfer as well.

Whyte did get drafted in the 7th round of the 2019 draft and played on 2 NFL rosters that season. For 2020-2021 he was on six different NFL practice squads. No info for 2022. For 2023 he'll be playing for the Memphis Showboats in the USFL. He really only had meaningful carries in 2018. The other previous 3 season he barely played (because he redshirted in 2015 and for 2016-2017 he was behind Singletary on the depth chart).

In 2016 Singletary had 152 carries for 1052 yards. In 2017 he had 301 attempts for 1918 yards, or roughly doubling his yards from scrimmage. So was he made better, or did he just get the opportunity to carry the rock more and that was the difference? (probably a little of both)

For 2020-2021 he was at Ole Miss and they had 2 RB commits. I don't recognize either of them but I'm not an Ole Miss fan. Most certainly could have gotten in quality transfers.

He was at Miami in 2022 but the only RB commitment in that class committed there in Jan 2022 so 24K probably didn't have anything to do with this recruit. Plus, it's Miami, and they are paying well so who knows if coaches are worth their salt there, or kids are just flat being paid to show up. I guess the only way to assess coaches anymore are results on the field. It's probably even suspect to know if guys can recruit or not going forward, if there is lots of money being thrown around with recruits that you and I don't know about.

He's back at Ole Miss for 2023.

Not seeing anything one way or another that says he's a difference maker, other than the 2,567 yards he ran for in 2007, which makes him a UCF legend, and holds one of the best single-season performances ever done by a college football player. This also doesn't mean he is not a good RB coach. Maybe he is. Teams keep wanting him to coach the position so he must be doing something right.

MATT WITH THE FACTS JACK!

Why did someone post about our RB coach situation on the Big 12 board?

They don't care.

You may be right anyway, but keep in mind that the Big 12 section of that board was completely dead until UCF, Cincy, and Houston got the invites. It was resurrected by fans of those schools and continues to be dominated by them, not legacy B12 schools.
