Congrats. Both stepped up when it counted.
Also, UCF actually did well on some important stats that helped them win: 50% shooting 3s (9-18), held USF to 21% on 3's, continued the run of low turnover numbers (11), Tacko had 4 more blocks (18 in 4 games), and one of our higher assist totals (13), had lots of steals (6) half of them by Nick.

Matt has developed a more complete game (even getting double-doubles), defense, ball handling, and passing.
In the pros, he won't be shadowed and face guarded by defenders nor have to play the entire game. He has the range, quick release, and strength to play a catch and shoot 2-guard in the pros. However, he still needs to work on ball handling and his dribble-drive so defenders will respect his pump fakes (which also must improve, a la the Villanova clinic they put on against us). Anybody think he'll be drafted? Nobody seemed to want to consider that question yet.

Thanks. So 1 year better than 2 best years combined out of DJ. Unreal.
I remember like it was yesterday Matt's first game. He'd missed the first several games with acute appendicitis, had lost a lot of weight, and was weak, so could only play 12 minutes, yet named conference player of the week! Why? He sunk 7 threes in a row (missed first and last attempts) for 21 points. What a coming out party! We were wowed in the stands.

Quantity of shots attempted and made, yes but his first 2 years were his best shooting percentage from downtown.
He didn't have a defender assigned to chase him all over the court and semi-illegally face guard him back then! Compare the USF game 1 vs. 2 when they didn't and did. Also, unlike other top 3 point shooter, his team doesn't have him shoot from behind screens. That's why Matt has the potential to play in the NBA.

His three point shooting percentage puts him at #77 in the country. Not great for his draft hopes

He is a volume shooter, especially from deep.

He is #6 in the country in 3 pt attempts per game but like most others in the Top 10 in attempts, they don't shoot at a high level (i.e. above 40%).

If UCF had more 3 pt scoring threats, Matt wouldn't be blanketed as much and would probably shoot a little less but at higher %.

Yes but his last 2 years combined with DJ he shot at a worse percentage and likely will have less made than 1 year under Dawkins. Says a lot.

Matt's worst season was after missing an entire season due to his torn ACL as for some shooters, it takes time to heal and gain their confidence back. Thought most would have understood that point.

When healthy, Matt's been a very consistent 3 pt shooter (37%-39%) and like most college players, their overall game improves during their 4-5 year careers (Matt is more aggressive driving inside 3 pt line now vs when he was a true Freshmen and his ball handling had improved a bit but still has trouble dealing with full court presses).

You are downplaying the green light given to him by Dawkins. Our teams sucked under DJ yet he wasn't allowing 3s to be put up by best shooter. Aubrey is more athletic and can shoot just as well so we won't have to worry next year either.

Ah, no.. thought most knew why, i.e. team played most of their games this year with 6 players and how AJ and BJ struggled for most of the year from downtown leaving Matt only main 3 pt threat (Banyard came on in final weeks after he got his confidence back).

I initially thought you were interested in stats but it obviously you had other motives for your comments. Thought you turned the corner with your new screen name but I guess not.

I am referencing your stats. This year was better than previous 2 COMBINED. Who was lights out shooting 3s those 2 years?

Also, last year we lacked a point guard. Matt is a catch-and-shoot phenom because of his quick release. Also, he's only now learning to create his own shots, mix in shorter jumpers, and needs to add a pump fake.
