UCF vs Duke Game thread ⚔️🖤💛

17 years let that sink in more than montana, eli manning and tied with marino, yeah he must have sucked.
And for his career 166 touchdowns in 17 years, barely 10 per year in 16 game seasons. So less than 1 td per game. And get this, 122 interceptions with only 166 tds. And you call that a good passing career? He was clearly a career game manager.

You like to address others as "idiot." How often do you look in the mirror?

I am tired of hearing about the kind of offense that Gus wants to run and that's why we got rid of Keene and are stuck with JRP and whoever else is coming up. Perhaps it time for Gus to think about the possibility that the offense he developed all those years ago is no longer effective, or if it still is, why isn't it working? Perhaps it is time for Gus to think about the possibility of playing to the strengths of his team instead of stubbornly sticking with an offense that perhaps he doesn't have the players to make successful. I am really ready for something new. Please bring on a creative and energetic OC and QB coach. I hope Gus will realize he will be most effective if he swallows his pride and becomes UCF's CEO.
Don’t disagree, Gus has to get it together. This was an important game and he blew it in a lot of ways.

Ok Gus. SERIOUSLY!!! JRP sucks! He’d make a great wr or rb but he’s NOT a P5 QB!!!

Don't sweat it....JPR's shortcomings as a P5 QB will be resolved this Spring and into the Summer when he is hanging out in Center Field....unless he pulls another hammy running out of the dugout

It’s not bad but you need a good QB. You also need WRs that finish routes. You need DBs that can cover….something…anything. There’s a lot that goes into success and failure. We have failed since winning the 1st Tulane game, as we lost key pieces and the level of QB play regressed dramatically. Glad I didn’t put much of anything on this game.

Fully sold on JRP not being a QB. I really wanted it to work. The potential is exciting, but he’s not there and more than likely will never be. Todays performance, even with some line break downs, solidifies my thought.

I think hoping for 6 wins and a bowl loss with Gus may be high end thinking.

Baker on the long pass reception late in the game displayed a very animated reaction to finally getting a deep ball.

No way WRs on this team want to continue this.

Duke secondary was one of the worst in the nation going into the game.

Exactly. How Gus can’t see this is infuriating. He’s willing to stick with JRP at the detriment to his team; risk losing wrs; and risking getting top wrs. It’s insane.

JRP was not healthy and will never be serviceable when forced to pass like this. I was ready for TC fairly early. If JRP can't go 100% in a game like this, which is meaningful in ceremony only, why play him? Get the kid reps to build on. I hate that TC's final in-game reps this season were the temporary reps against Tulane. That sucks for him. But then again the OL was getting bullied today, so who knows? I would have put in TC and had JRP hold the clipboard.

The OL is just not getting it done. In terms of players, I am far more concerned about that OL unit than JRP. Maybe Herb is the one that sucks. All I know is we need to get better there fast. I am looking forward to the incoming OL transfers.

The defense honestly, like, I was expecting Duke to put up 30 points. With TMB out there were what, 5 true freshmen in there? I don't think it was that bad. I actually like what I saw out of the Henderson twins. I think they're going to be special.

The offense just blew today, no other way to put it.

Marc and Gary mentioned Duke had no opt-outs leading up to this game, or ones at least reported prior to kick-off. Not trying to make excuses here by any means, the better team won today, but we had quite a few starters not playing which may have impacted the final outcome.

Yeah but wasn't it pointed out here that they were all on defense? I didn't have much complaint on defense.

I said something to this effect earlier in the year about coaches and bringing their own "systems" and not considering what the situation is with the personnel (and with how you can recruit at a given school).

Somehow these people with millionaire coaching talent only know how to run what they ran at the last place, and are never expected to grow and change.

It's infuriating that ROK transferred, but look at it: one deep ball all game. Guys like him need fed. Like everyone says here, can we have a quick slant, a pop pass to the TE, anything to beat the blitz?

There's been talk about Brad Johnson. The thing he won the super bowl on was a system that was suited for him: short fast passes in a west coast offense. With all the talk about JRP's strengths and weaknesses, why has there seemingly been no effort playbook-wise to get the ball out of his hands quickly?

What is this Gus system anyway that's so smart that apparently you have to have Brett Favre but who can also run a 4.3 in order to win with it? Well I think even I could design an offense around that guy.

For all the grief that JRP gets here, just consider what an athlete he is. If we can't come up with a system where we can win with a guy who has all the strengths he does, it's on the coaching, not on the player.

I think it’s a case of both.

JRP is clearly limited in his skill set and Gus offensive philosophy is similar to smashing square pegs into round holes. He doesn’t seem to be open to change.

I listened to the after game press conference. I'm tired of, "We just didn't get it done." Hell, we know you didn't get it done. We all watched the fiasco. When does Gus tell us why "we just didn't get it done?" Does Gus really know why "we didn't get it done?" How long will "we just didn't get it done" be an acceptable answer. I am sick and tired of hearing Gus defend his choice of JRP as QB. JRP is an exciting athlete. He might make a great running back or wide receiver but it has been clear to many that JRP is not an effective QB. If it's going to be a Run/Pass option offense the QB has to also be an effective passer. But it doesn't help that the offense doesn't seem to suit the talent on the field. That's not players that coaches and particularly whoever is doing the offensive play calling. I don't want to hear any more "We just didn't get it done." We pay coaches to get it done.

Iron sharpens Iron. My point is if the QB is not a great passer the DB are not going to get properly challenged in practice. I assume the DB'S covered well in practice.

Maybe no opt outs but they missed a few guys due to jury. We got beat bad. Only excuse is we didn’t play as well. Defense played good enough to win. Bowser played good enough to win. Gus kept on not giving ball to Bowser and we didn’t move ball or fumbled when he made decision to go away from Bowser. Is he the only coach that stops what is working for shits and giggles?

Game was on Espn again this morning watched while I got ready for work turned it off quickly. JRP is not the answer at QB he has no pocket presence looks for first read then trys to run and runs right into defense. I don't blame the Oline all you should have to give is 3 to 5 seconds for pass block QB should have made decision by that point to go thru progressions, run or throw it away.

A running QB will never be healthy. Especially a small one.
He was healthy for the first 6-7 games of the season, but yeah if you're going to make a guy like JRP the guy, you have to have somebody ready at the drop of a hat. Preferably one that won't refuse to play in your conference championship game.

Yea but you need to remember that we did try a few quick passes and the balls were all batted down at the line. He was able to complete similar throws against SMU and is one of the reasons JRP was able to feast on the Mustangs. JRP is always going to take the most heat as the QB, and also most of the praise, but this was a team loss on the offense in every sense. Drops, bad passes, poor OL play, questionable play-calling, etc. No one person was going to fix that mess. Although that damn fumble really was a backbreaker in the early goings.

That MF'r can't read defenses, so he tucks and run at the sniff of pressure. MF'r, go play baseball and give your scholarship to someone dedicated to football.
I think he also reverts to running simply because he's used to being, let's just say it, the fastest person on the entire field for probably his entire life.
