I said something to this effect earlier in the year about coaches and bringing their own "systems" and not considering what the situation is with the personnel (and with how you can recruit at a given school).
Somehow these people with millionaire coaching talent only know how to run what they ran at the last place, and are never expected to grow and change.
It's infuriating that ROK transferred, but look at it: one deep ball all game. Guys like him need fed. Like everyone says here, can we have a quick slant, a pop pass to the TE, anything to beat the blitz?
There's been talk about Brad Johnson. The thing he won the super bowl on was a system that was suited for him: short fast passes in a west coast offense. With all the talk about JRP's strengths and weaknesses, why has there seemingly been no effort playbook-wise to get the ball out of his hands quickly?
What is this Gus system anyway that's so smart that apparently you have to have Brett Favre but who can also run a 4.3 in order to win with it? Well I think even I could design an offense around that guy.
For all the grief that JRP gets here, just consider what an athlete he is. If we can't come up with a system where we can win with a guy who has all the strengths he does, it's on the coaching, not on the player.
