UCF vs Kansas 9:30pm Round 2 Big12 Tourney ESPN2 & ESPN+

Honestly the team had very good talent this year. We saw Thiam, Juice, Hall, Darius, etc all show flashes of taking over a game. They were just lacking it from a mental standpoint. Poor decisions, defensive lapses, and missed free throws at the worst possible times. I don’t know if this is a Johnnie issue or just the players needing more development.

Good. I'm glad they lost. Thiam and Hall are 2 of the most worthless players UCF has ever had.
Guy that led the Big 12 in scoring is one of the most worthless players UCF has ever had? And leading scorer for both teams last night. Interesting take. We've had some pretty bad teams over the years with a very long list of players that aren't anywhere near as good as either of them. Thiam is supposed to be a senior in high school for crying out loud and he was second in the conference blocks this year. Never thought I'd see the day where our fans lose their minds over losing in OT to Kansas.

I feel like every year its "if JD can get a(insert 1 or 2 positions) we might have a chance next year". I doubt we fire him due to cost, but at a minimum no way he should stay past his current contract.

This is not a good KU team they lost to. Neither of the guys to mentioned play any defense and Thiam missed a wide open easy shot, so I don't want to hear about him being even decent at all. Thiam has accepted that losing is ok, so I hope he ends up somewhere else next season. Hall has no basketball awareness. We know Dawkins isn't getting fired, so we will continue to get guys with no toughness or basketball IQ.

Great effort from our guys. No moral victories, but nothing to hang your head over with last night’s performance.

Kind of the story of the season. That game was close enough that it’s very safe to say having Jaylin Sellers available would have been enough to make the difference. Could say that against Houston, at Kansas as well. Oh well…
Sellers got a little injured and quit on the team.

Wow, that was an awesome press conference.

Seriously, cheering on UCF is so gd exhuasting. Get over the gd hump and start WINNING folks...seems like EVERY sport at UCF just languishes and is DOA when it counts. Wouldn't be surprised if SB and BB take a nose dive by the end of the season as well.

I guess I'm still sour about last night's results....just so f'ing hard to root for.

I think Johnny's got the Malzhan flu, and may check out. He looks tired as well, understandably so. I know I certainly am.
I hope he quits.

Hall has been awesome, and this will be controversial, but watching games so frustrating I can’t shake the feeling that it seemed like he was shaving points at times. He was too good to look almost like bad acting when he was bad. I’m sure I’m wrong, but that’s how he looked at times. That’s how the whole team looked at times, frustratingly bad at times, really good at times, refs in on it? Refs have been terrible also, to the point where it seems like the fix was in…I don’t gamble, but damn it was a suspicious season.

It’s better to be thought of as stupid then to continue to post and remove all doubt

Pauls Drive In for next coach.

UCF has never gotten on the good side of the refs all Year. I've been suspect of the Big12 refs all year. but, I also realize i don't have the best angle to make the call. But, basically my opinion refs can blow the whistle on every play as there is some contact to justify it. It's the selective calls and hyper sensitive ones that I question. Like that Technical foul on Hall. All he was doing was holding his hands up and couldn't believe the call. Then the ref charges Hall with a tech. I was like what? Fouling Darius Johnson out in the 2nd half was also suspect of shenanigans. But, whatever, We lost. Moving on...

Mikey Williams may fill the void left by Johnson. A lot of tough losses this year.
The word may is doing a lot of lifting in this sentence.

You can make the argument the team was better when M. Williams was off the floor. He’s got a ways to go to be a competent college role player, let alone fill the shoes of a three-year starter.

I caught the basketball portion of the Sons of UCF, the guy that does the basketball coverage on there sounded like he believed no one will be back next season player wise.

Obviously bro, that is my entire point. He would have made a difference if he was on the court.

How do you miss that point?
You were talking about the KU game. He dies not make a difference if he plays in that. That’s the point. How TF can you be saying, boy we needed that guy last night , when he didn’t play all year? Hall took over this year and Sellers wouldn’t have been asked to do much. There’s only 1 ball.

It’s not that hard. Sellers averaged 13.5 points as a sophomore and 15.9 last season. He has started 68 of his 98 career games, and has made 132 3PTA’s in his career (37%). You don’t think he makes a difference - if he was healthy - in the outcome of a few one possession games (LSU, Houston, at KU, KU), opposed to someone like Machowski, M. Williams, Coleman, Hendricks, or Di. Johnson playing minutes to piece together a rotation?

Give me a break.

@BlakNGoldAllDay has had so many bad takes. He thinks his word is God and is never wrong.

He would have made a difference if he wanted to play this season.

Yeah like Baker wasn’t a great receiver because he couldn’t get his feet inbounds consistently? You clowns said he was going to be great. Then he doesn’t play at all. Those takes? PS stop trying to sell your card collection. Every 2 years you post it and no one wants it.

We were talking last game. Stop the what if shit when he didn’t play all season. Offense was not the problem this year. Defense was. This years team scored way more than his team last year. Offense ran through Darius, Hall and Thiam. He wasn’t getting the ball over them.

If you actually go back and read my original post, I said that Sellers would have made a difference in a few games this year, including (but not only) the game Wednesday night.

He’s a top 2-3 player in the program with experience, athleticism, shooting ability, etc. You keep saying “he wouldn’t have made a difference because he only played in three games”.

No shit, why did he only play in three games!? You’re acting like he was benched. His back was hurt, he didn’t lose his talent. I’m not going to argue with someone that just wants to retort just for the sake of arguing. Yes the interior defense was the primary issue this year, and yes that’s an issue that has nothing to do with Sellers.

But to say that his presence on the floor wouldn’t have made a one or two possession difference (my original point), or to say he would have made no difference Wednesday (your words) is absurd.

I’ll leave it at that, I won’t respond anymore…

Good reply sport.

I do not think he’s gonna fill Johnson’s shoes. Johnson was a great asset to the team. That being said Williams is a pretty talented kid and if he gets his bearings going, he certainly has the talent to be a nice player.

This was a hard fought game and I was proud of the team. Were there a few blown calls.. yeah. I thought Hall played well but he seems to lose focus and play hero/iso ball too much at times. Perfect example of that was toward the end of the game when he went 1 on 3 rather than pull the ball back out. He is a talent that needs refining and again part of that is coaching.

Thiam is going to be special and anyone who doesn't see that is blind or just stupid. Calling for him to leave is moronic, the kid should still be in high school. Give him a year or two with a proper nutrition and weight program and he will be a beast.

It was a surprise he got a contract extension last time, wouldn't be surprised if he got another.
They'll give him another year or two with more NIL money (paying transfers). If he gets higher caliber players will he still go .500 or .600 like usual? I have a gut feeling that we wont be over .600 in 2025-2026 or 2026-2027. Just a gut feel.

Hall and Thiam are both coming back 2025-2026 hopefully. I hope we can keep Thiam. He will be something special. Maybe Hall can too.
