Miserable day for football. It rained like crazy for hours prior to the game, but the rain let up for the 1st 3 quarters. It rained during the entire 4th quarter. It was in the 40's and windy, too. The field was wet and slippery.
Those UCF kids from Florida were constantly fighting for space around the 2 portable heaters they had. It was funny.
UCF's top defensive lineman, Pittman was on crutches and did not suit up. SF never talks about injuries so nobody knows what it is. Another starting UCF defensive lineman, the freshman Trysten Hill, injured his leg in the 1st quarter and it took about 5 minutes to get him off the field. He looked like he was in a great deal of pain, but thankfully he returned to the game after halftime. Teams like UCF with limited depth can not afford to lose starters.
The UConn stadium is very fan friendly. Small stadiums have small sections (20 seats per row) and it is easy to go to and from your seats. Seemed like UConn fans treat football games sort of like a social event. They are not rabid football fans. They serve beer at the games and everybody has a good time.
I met the grandmother of a freshman player on UCF's team...a young linebacker (Evans) from New Orleans. She told me that when Coach Frost and his buddies came to Louisiana to recruit her grandson she told them that she would "beat their asses" if her grandson got in any trouble in Orlando. She said that Scott's crew keeps her grandson very busy with schoolwork and practice, and they pretty much account for his whereabouts 24/7, so she is happy.
UConn's stadium is not located on the UConn Campus. It is in an older residential area in East Harford. They have large open fields surrounding the stadium for parking, so parking was very convenient. Stadium is just a half mile from an exit on Interstate 84, so it was very easy to find. Traffic before and after the game was not bad at all.
Saw something in that game I had never seen before. A UConn field goal attempt hit the sidebar and bounced back into a UCF player's hands. He caught the ball in the air and ran it for a touchdown, but it was ruled a dead play.
On UConn's last 2 drives they got down to UCF's 15 yard line, but they needed a touchdown and a 2 point conversion to tie, and they couldn't quite get it in the end zone. It was a close game.
