Unequal Justice?

Yeah, I'd sigh too if I was forced to defend your BS.
What was cherry picked? Leaving out the most extreme police response from the Capitol invasion (fatally shooting a woman in the neck) seems like cherry-picking to me.
I might agree with you IF we weren't talking about a mob of people literally storming the entrances. I would think our 'law and order' crowd here would expect a deadly response under those circumstances, right? The reality is that while a number of heroic Capitol police officers resisted, other officers simply allowed the mob to enter unobstructed (and a couple even had selfies taken with the insurrectionists.)
As for how they prepared for January 6th... This was easily the first time we’ve seen a Trump rally turn into unruly behavior like that, so why expect it to turn violent at the Capitol?
Gee. I dunno, maybe 'cause the 'rally' was being held on the same day Congress was blessing the EC vote. Maybe 'cause the President told his followers for weeks leading up to this date that the election was being STOLEN from him. In your words, "clearly there's some precedent to suggest a heavy police presence would be needed."

Seems like the Capitol police did well if you ask me.

They kept the crowd from getting to any members of Congress and did not escalate the violence to a massacre or situation that turned incredibly dark.

Maybe you’d have preferred they opened fire into a crowd of people? Just to keep some people from trespassing?

If this was such a bloodthirsty and violent mob, where’s all the destroyed property footage from inside? A crowd that size could have forced their way to just about anywhere they wanted to if they had any determination to do it.

But no, it was a bunch of pissed off people who forced their way into the Capitol and didn’t seem to have anything to do once they got inside. Unacceptable, but not something worth the massacre you seem to be upset didn’t occur.

Sometimes falling back is a good strategic move.

I agree. In fact, given how undermanned they were, all the ones who stood up to the mob deserve medals if you ask me.

The issue is that they were sorely understaffed. The question is why in the world that was the case? It didn't take an Einstein to see how explosive a January 6th rally could easily become.

Who would you like to criticize specifically?

"Perfect hindsight does not change the fact that nothing in our collective experience or our intelligence – including intelligence provided by FBI, Secret Service, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and D.C. Metropolitan Police (MPD) – indicated that a well-coordinated, armed assault on the Capitol might occur on Jan. 6.”

Dear Chief Sund,
There was indeed alarming intelligence available prior to the event as well as offers of national guard assistance from neighboring State governors, both of which were ignored.

It also was unprecedented to have a sitting President who refused to concede, and who continued, despite all evidence to the contrary, to tell his supporters that the election was being stolen from him and charging them with not standing for the Jan. 6th Congressional EC vote blessing to take place. This Trump rhetoric was shared with his supporters countless times leading up to the rally.

Hell, it was so obvious that I had a thread in the WC talking about Trump‘s Coup attempts before being forced out of office, yet somehow you and your officers were still caught flat-footed and ill-prepared? No wonder you lost your job.
Sincerely,
Shuckster

So you must think FBI, CIA, DHS, and Secret Service heads need to roll too then, right?

After all, it can’t possibly be true that extreme and credible threats that our democracy would be overthrown existed beforehand and the single person responsible for failing was... the Chief of Capitol Police. 😂

To be fair on this point, the feds did offer their help in preparation and during the event and the Capitol Police turned them down. I think the blame falls more on the DC mayor, though, who was playing a political game at the time.

Unless you believe in the more sinister conspiracy theory that the lack of preparation was intentional so that we could see the only “Trump-inspired” violence in four years at the exact time that it would provide the most amount of political capital for the military lockdown of DC, the second impeachment, and a range of other orders that were enacted due to that one event.

Props to sk8knight for sharing the truth.

"The assistant director of the FBI’s Washington Field Office defended the agency at a Tuesday afternoon press conference, saying the office warned local law enforcement that individuals “with intentions to cause violence” were traveling to D.C. before thousands of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol.

In the weeks prior to the Jan. 6 siege, federal authorities worked internally with every field office in the nation “to ensure that we were looking for any intelligence that may have developed about potential violence,” Assistant Director Steven D’Antuono said.

During their search, the FBI “developed some intelligence a number of individuals were planning to travel to the D.C. area” to cause chaos—and alerted local authorities."

Haven't seen you denounce the Capitol Insurrectionists like you cried and moaned over the summer during peaceful BLM protests in Orlando.

Why's that?
