I was disturbed the first time I read that Jason Ravnborg, South Dakota's attorney general, was only being charged with three misdemeanors for killing a man on the road and leaving the scene of the accident. Why the hell not manslaughter or at least leaving the scene of a deadly accident? I thought. Nope, just careless driving, driving out of his lane and operating a motor vehicle while on his phone -- each one punishable by a $500 fine by golly!!!

But yesterday, we learned the rest of the story: a video tape was released to the public of the police interrogated him about the event the next day. On the video he said he thought he struck a deer and looked around with his cellphone as a flashlight and found nothing. THEN the police asked him to explain why the victim's glasses were found in his car.

Yeah, no unequal justice in this country. 🙄

This is a weird story. Sounds like they're probably going to up the charges.

I don't think it's a coincidence that after the original charges were announced that the police interrogation video somehow got released to the public.

I've gotta think he was drunk. Otherwise why would he leave the scene?

This week the independent report was released on the police's handling of Elijah McClain, the Aurora Colorado guy found guilty of walking down the sidewalk while Black and sentenced to death.

That’s a really shitty story, but please stop with the ridiculous hyperbole. “Walking down the sidewalk while black” is a crazy way to describe it. Wearing a ski mask at night in August is suspicious behavior. Worth what happened to him? Hell no! But stop pretending they just picked a random black guy and killed him because he was on the sidewalk.

He was acting very suspiciously. That’s a fact. The cops handled the situation really poorly. That seems pretty obvious as well.

But cut the shit with “walking down the sidewalk while black” as if that’s the ONLY reason they had to interact with him.

He's just trying to rile everyone up. Even if you prove beyond a reasonable doubt that what Shuck is saying in this incidents is categorically wrong, he'll just wait a bit and then regurgitate his initial position as if the previous discussion didn't happen. Going down the path with him is a waste of time.

It wasn't a ski mask, it was a face mask--just like most sane people are wearing nowadays.

@DaShuckster has admitted multiple times that he supports pedo's and is even attracted to underage women. He is no moral arbiter worth taking seriously. belongs in jail honestly.

"McClain's family said he was wearing the ski mask because he suffered from anemia, which made him feel cold."
When the story first broke, I recalled seeing the security video of him purchasing some stuff from a 7/11 minutes before the incident happened. I thought at the time he had on a black face mask and a stocking cap. I admit I was wrong. But that said, walking down the street in a ski mask isn't illegal either, is it?

Nobody is saying he got what he deserved here.

But you claimed he got stopped and attacked just because he was black walking down the sidewalk, like the cops were bored and decided to kill a random black person.

We can discuss this stuff like human adults, but only if you cut the shit and represent what happened accurately. What happened to Elijah McClain wasn’t ok. There’s no reason to exaggerate it to something it wasn’t.

What was 'exaggerated'? That he wore a ski mask rather than a face mask???!? Because other than that detail, the story is the same. He was walking home on a public sidewalk from his local convenience store.

That's pretty much what happened. They all "act suspiciously". Always an excuse.

What isn’t suspicious about someone in a ski mask in August? If you see someone walking through your neighborhood with a ski mask on prior to Covid, are you calling the police or just assuming they’re probably just cold?

Criticize the actions of the cops afterward all you want, and I’ll probably agree. But don’t act like it’s racist for the police to stop someone wearing a ski mask and acting erratically to find out what they’re up to and find out if they need help. That’s where it should have ended, but it didn’t. That’s where the criticism should start.

GTFO with this “a black man can’t even walk down the street dressed like a burglar without drawing suspicion” nonsense.

Do you really think burglars walk down the street in ski masks? It's Colorado, it's always fricking cold at night. He wasn't doing anything illegal. Mind your own GD business so nobody gets killed!

It was suspicious enough for one of his neighbors to call 911.

Hmmmm, I wonder why? 🤔🤔
Because it’s a person in a ski mask.

The thing about ski masks at night is they make it hard to see someone. If you can’t see someone you probably can’t tell what they look like.

But go ahead and assume that the person who called 911 was 1) white, 2) racist, and 3) able to see him well enough to know what race he was.

Are we really having this discussion? Walking around in August with a ski mask isn't suspicious? Do we always need to claim victim for everything these days?
The average low in Aurora in August is in the high 50's. Anemic man puts on a ski mask to stay warm. Doesn't break any laws. Gets bullied and killed by cops. You make excuses. SAD!

Acting erratically? Who's exaggerating now?

Wouldn't you think that if ANYONE was concerned about Elijah's ski mask, it would have been the 7/11 cashier? I suppose she could have asked him to remove it, but didn't, because she didn't see it as a big deal.

> Elijah McClain: "I INTEND TO TAKE MY POWER BACK"
> proceeds to reach for the officer's gun
> "oh no i've been killed"

Then you make excuses for his death. If you or I "handled it poorly" and someone died, we would be held accountable. So should these cops.
Well said.

A 23 year old man walks down the sidewalk on his way home and is assaulted and dies at the hands of his local police department. We've got posters who all agree this police stop was, at the very least, 'handled poorly.'
So how were those officers held accountable?
Zero charges were filed even though an innocent, unarmed man was killed.

We also have a state attorney general caught lying on tape when he was asked if he was aware he struck and killed a man with his car.
So how was he held accountable?
The guy got slapped on the wrist with three misdemeanors even though he was responsible for killing a man -- and then lying about it.
