Unequal Justice

Then you make excuses for his death. If you or I "handled it poorly" and someone died, we would be held accountable. So should these cops.
I’ve never made excuses for his death... please show me where I have.

I’ve said it was justified for police to respond and at least ask him why he was wearing a ski mask. They should have approached him in a non-threatening manner, asked him about the mask, found out he’s not doing anything wrong, and been on their way.

I know my point is completely correct, and that’s why you desperately need a straw man. I’m not excusing anyone. The STOP seems at least somewhat justified. What HAPPENED during the stop was not. How fücking dense are you??

He was black. Clearly you are a racist.

Checkmate.

What? It sure sounds like you're excusing the cops for stopping him when he was walking down the street (while Black), minding his own business and not bothering or harassing anyone.
Why? What was the suspicious criminal act under investigation?
Ok, you’re right. The police clearly only stopped him because of his black skin, which they hate more than anything. If he had white skin instead and wore a ski mask they would have thought nothing of it.

We should all assume the best about everyone but the police. Someone walking around at night in the summer with a ski mask couldn’t possibly be a mugger or burglar.

It's a common theme with this police dept. When you give them a pass for "handling it wrong", they do it again.

I find it interesting that the Nashville police apparently received all kinds of anonymous tips about the man who would subsequently become a suicide bomber. Why? The authorities told us they legally had no justification for doing so.

But you're telling us the Aurora police were legally justified in detaining a man walking down a public sidewalk...because he's wearing face covering?

Systemic racism among the police must be even worse than we all thought if people are still pointing to an instance that happened nearly 2 years ago.

Well said.

A 23 year old man walks down the sidewalk on his way home and is assaulted and dies at the hands of his local police department. We've got posters who all agree this police stop was, at the very least, 'handled poorly.'
So how were those officers held accountable?
Zero charges were filed even though an innocent, unarmed man was killed.

We also have a state attorney general caught lying on tape when he was asked if he was aware he struck and killed a man with his car.
So how was he held accountable?
The guy got slapped on the wrist with three misdemeanors even though he was responsible for killing a man -- and then lying about it.
its a funny level of doublethink you have to employ to believe both:

a) courts are inherently corrupt and cannot be trusted to do their job properly

b) on the other hand, voter fraud could've never happened because "the courts said so"

you don't get to pick both

Yep, then it happened again the next year. Systemic.

Wouldn't you think that if ANYONE was concerned about Elijah's ski mask, it would have been the 7/11 cashier? I suppose she could have asked him to remove it, but didn't, because she didn't see it as a big deal.
Do you believe white people are not punished enough by the court system or is minorities are punicsed too much (or combination of the two)? what's your solution....specifically, what's the new law that we need; what law needs to be changed; or, what law needs to be eliminated? If it's not writing or revising laws, is it rules of evidence? Is it eliminating criminal defenses available to police? Is it revising sentencing guidelaines? What specifically do you propose to remedy this unequal justice?

The Constitution grants men and women the right to vote. Doesn't that mean the other 70 genders should not be able to vote?

I believe murder is already on the books. If it applies to everybody, including those dumbasses In Aurora Colorado wearing police uniforms, then we’re already covered.

Okay so no new laws......I don't want to put words in anyone's mouth but sounds like the problem statement is "not enough police are charged, tried and convicted". What needs to change to get that desired result of more police convictions.....do you suggest the bruden of proof be lowered for police? do you want to see certain defenses not allowed? What's the solution, or is the problem completely unsolvable?

If I would have assaulted Elijah McClain on the sidewalk and shot him up with an overdose of drugs, I’m pretty sure the DA’s office would have charged me with murder, don’t you think?

So, whether we’re talking about stupid cops in Aurora or a state AG who kills a guy in South Dakota, it seems to me our “tough on crime” crowd shouldn’t be making excuses for some but not others.

Simply expect District Attorneys to do their damn job. Murder is murder, regardless of a person's perceived position of power.
Is your point that DAs are derelict in their sworn duty to equally uphold the law and this disregard for the law is due solely to widespread racial animus? Is your remedy to simply have more aggressive DAs..........seems even the most aggressive DAs seldom obtain convictions (see Baltimore/Freddy Gray debacle for instance).

well no, cuz he loves the courts if it has to do with Trump, its just when a Dindu Nuffin gets killed that he decides they're a problem.

White people get questioned by the police for the same thing all the time.

No, he confronted her he said he had a reason: She looked suspicious.
Are you saying he thinks every black person is suspicious around a residential complex where clearly at least some black people live?

Do you know why he thought she looked suspicious? I’m not asking if you think you know, because I doubt you’ve ever met or spoken to this security guard. You probably don’t know his name, where he’s from, what he looks like, who his friends are... but if you or Amanda Gorman wants to tell me what’s in his mind and his heart anyway, I guess there’s nothing stopping you.

My bad for questioning this anonymous security guard. This Amanda Gorman character DOES look like the suspicious type.

I'd bet you 10,000 dollars that her story is made up. Those tweets reek of Jussie Smollets rotten subway sandwich and jehri curl

Woke police is here. Lol. Another 2am subway run in sub zero weather? Maga country...lol
Let's see here:
We've got Amanda Gorman, a Harvard graduate who is the first person to be named National Youth Poet Laureate. She also delivered her poem, The Hill that we Climb, at President Biden's inauguration -- and has TWO books of her poems on the New York Times' Best Seller List.

And we've got Jussie Smollette, a second-fiddle actor on a TV show who was about to be released from his contract when his 'incident' happened.

Smollett said he was assaulted in a story so outrageous that its the highlight of Dave Chappelle's last comedy special. Gorman said she was followed home by a security officer and asked to show proof she lived in her building because...(drumroll)...she looked suspicious. (You never know about those 22 year old, 5'4", 117 lb. Black females, right?)

Gee, I wonder what it was about these two people and their stories that has caused KNIGHTTIME to link the two?

who gives a shit?

so a nerdy Cardi B, who grew up in private schools with millionaire parents, is your symbol of oppression because a rent-a-cop told her she looked sketchy?

she probably did, she even had a follow up tweet saying "I AM A THREAT."

lemme ask you this, if you love black people so much, why do you live somewhere that is over 90% white?
