I have a glock 19 that I love and have been considering the 26 for awhile. Also saw the single stack 43 so any thoughts between those 2 would be appreciated.

Buy an M&P Shield and save yourself a hundred bucks.

Heard good things. I think 85 suggested that previously too. Just like my glock and haven't shot an M&P before so kind of kept the search to glocks. Should probably rent one at the range and give it a shot.

I can make it simple for you: any polymer pistol from any of the major OEMs these days will be a good pistol. Period.

The biggest sticking point on Glocks is a lack of thumb safety.

I like my Shield. The G43 is good too. And Sig just came out with a high capacity small carry that I haven’t shot yet. Although they’ve had issues with recent polymer launches.

My favorite pistol remains the Sig M11A1 but it’s tpo big to carry

This is 100% true. Glock, S&W M&P line, Beretta PX line, all of Sigs except that new Army POS, CZ (both the P-07 and P-10). Tons of options out there, all of them will be ridiculously reliable, similar price. Comes down to the configuration you want and what fits your hand/ergonomics.

Cooler fixed...

Thanks for the suggestions guys

The new Canik TP9 SF is surprisingly decent for a Turkish made firearm. They ripped off Walther a lot but it's pretty nice for under $350.

I'm talking a lot to their US distributor at the moment.

Why do you need a scope for your AR? All you'll ever use it for is to spray random strangers. Amirite libs?

He may want to shot at people from an elevated window, Vegas style.

I know he needs the AR in case the deer or the turkeys shoot back

My son purchased one ~3 mos ago (less than $300). He shot the hell out of it this past weekend and had no issues. However, after inspection of the casings, he asked me about the depth of the imprint on the primer and it seems to be on the light side. We found one imprint that was almost non-existent but the round went off anyway. He was using Magtech ammo.

I believe on the earlier models they did have issues with the firing pin but this is a newer model. He'll be calling the manufacturer.

OT - Sighted in my Vortex Razor holographic sight on the AR-15 last weekend and it's fabulous - love it. Sighting it in was kinda tedious but fun. The only problem I had with it is that polarized sunglasses don't work well with them.

My buddy had an Eotech red dot site and it was a little crisper.

apparently primary arms just had a flash sale on blemished optics. just noticed the email this morning and now im pissed. couldve saved over $100

I'm about 99% sure PA and Holosun mini red dots are made in the same factory in China.

Pretty sure an AR would be the wrong choice for long range shooting. Go back to HuffPo for all your pertinent gun info.

Have you looked at this one? It's new from Vortex and has a 2-MOA dot which should be just fine. It's only $219 and has some pretty good reviews.

I'm a Vortex fan because they make good optics for the price plus lifetime warranties.

whats the battery life on this thing? cant seem to find it anywhere.

was actually looking at the mro but money is an issue with 2 little kids

On another gun note The TC Compass is on sale through a link I found for dirt cheap. After their mail in rebate it's around 200 bucks or a 275 for one mounted with a vortex crossfire scope. Entry level rifle yes. But they shoot good

So, I'm looking to buy three (3) handguns, one for the wife, one for myself, and one as a backup/extra (even "parts bin" if it came to that).

Here's what I'm thinking of ...
  • Primary purpose: small mammal defense
    • Primary purpose is to defend against packs of coyotes (going for our 9lbs dog)
    • Secondary purpose is home defense, although our neighbors watch out for each other
  • First time owners
    • So safety design and hammer/trigger reliability
    • Easy of disassembly and maintenance
  • Wife's limited grip will define size
    • So 9mm very likely, although still open on cartridge
    • Open to single stack if necessary
  • Parts commonality, ammunition availability
    • Not a prepper, but it never hurts
    • Something that is common in Alabama-Georgia-Florida
Also ...
  • Gun safe considerations?
    • One for guns in our bedroom
    • Possibly another that could store rifles too (in the basement)
I really think some designs, like the .45 GAP and .357 SIG are cool, and even the Florida Highway Patrol has carried such, but I think we're going to stick with the mainstay.

I'm also curious how common the Beretta 92 will be, given the US military is rolling off of it. But I'm thinking it's not the best for ergonomics and other aspects.

Serious question. Do you all use these guns? For hunting? Just to go to the shooting range?

I use mine for concealed carry, home protection and hunting. A couple of my guns I don't use for any of those but I really enjoy target shooting. Like a lot of activities or sports, it's simply an activity you can do that's challenging and enjoyable at the same time. Many people in my family enjoy shooting and we can have fun doing target practice together as a family activity. I do use all my guns but enjoy shooting some more than others.

I shoot all of mine at least once a month. I can do it on my own property, if I couldn't I wouldn't shoot nearly as much. It's fun.

This will handle all your non-conceal needs.*

I am strictly a range guy. Too scared to shoot Bambi or Thumper but I have done my Hunter Safety Course if I ever need to get a license. I have a CWP but I don’t carry very often. I mainly got it so I didn’t have to wait when purchasing a firearm. Small collection, nothing too fancy:

Springfield M1 Garand (National Match front and rear sights)
Soviet-capture Mauser 98k (with swastikas stamped-out)
S&W M&P Sport II AR-15 (no upgrades, just stock)

Springfield GI .45 ACP
S&W M&P Shield 9mm
S&W .40 (not sure of the model, was given the gun by a buddy who owed me money he couldn’t repay)
Beretta 92D 9mm
Taurus 9mm (carry gun with Clipdraw)
Bersa Thunder .380 (x2, both carry guns with Clipdraws)
Taurus .357 revolver

With the obvious exception of those first two, your taste in guns is almost as bad as your taste in college football teams. Especially the all the clip draw's, are trying to shoot your dick off?

May I ask why you have a Shield but choose to carry a shitty Brazilian gun that cracks?
