US not the only country with immigrant problems

Those people are the unfortunate ones - born in countries ruled by tyrants. The closest thing to this suffering is being a kid born into a family of abuse. Say what you want about our country, but at least we can complain. Whats horrible is a majority of them who live in countries without freedom and with mass corruption accept and support it...and countries like ours suffer for it.

Europe is an absolute mess right now. Not only do they have refugees streaming in from Syria and Iraq, they also have economic migrants who are coming over on boats and trying to reach Italy, Spain, Greece, or come from the east.

I just spoke to a German colleague who said that they are having to form emergency camps throughout the country to deal with the flood of migrants coming in.

Hungary erected some type of shitty fence. Macedonia is water hosing people trying to cross the order. The UK is effectively shutting down every possible way to get in, including the Chunnel. Greece is putting people in abandoned sports arenas since they don't even have money for themselves. Turkey is completely overwhelmed with ISIS/Kurds to care about migration.

We should put all of our immigrants in a truck. Problem solved.

We can co-op the government and other organizations to collect money to purchase trucks to store the immigrants. We maybe able to revitalize the automobile industry...just as long these trucks are made in the USA.

We need to Mike Rowe to get a bunch of people and turn them into truck drivers instead of welders. Huge shortage of drivers today. I'm sure Obama and Trump can work together on this and have the govt pay for training and have Donald point them in the right direction.

Europe is RACIST!!! Why don't they just open their borders and people won't have to die trying to sneak in.
With a good half of my colleagues being in the EU ... it's always funny to get into those "discussions" with them. Because they've literally been "brainwashed" by their own media, along with the left-leaning media in the US that doesn't "explain the details."

I.e., I find comparing their own immigration rules to the US always enlightening to them.

E.g., the "anchor babies" phrase as of late ... of which they cannot believe you can make a citizen, and gain benefits for the parents, by merely having a child on the soil of US.

The thought is completely (pun)foreign(pun) to them. Then I get into the organized crime built around "undocumented residents," and they start to realize what they are hearing in any media is completely shallow and absolute non-sense.

Because it's not the illegal immigrant Americans dislike ... it's the systems of abuse and indentured servitude built around them (organized crime, abusing American companies, fraud in public services, etc...), even before we get to the political wing in the US who wants more "new voters."

"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

- Statue of Liberty.

And the key point was that immigrants could prove themselves.
That no one had the right to judge people, they could prove themselves (or not) on their own.

Unfortunately ... we in the US have forgotten this ideal.

Statue of Liberty is French. Send them there.
The Statue of Liberty was a gift from select French people.
Just like select French people supported us in our revolution, and convinced the monarchy -- afraid of what it may lead to (and they were right) -- to ally with our cause, as we shared a common enemy (at the time).

The US has been built on the ideas and thoughts of select Europeans throughout its history.
Unfortunately, too many Americans -- all both popular sides of the political spectrum in the US -- have forgotten all about what that really is.

Which is why our immigration policy doesn't help anyone.
Not the citizens of our nation, and not the would be immigrants who could only make it stronger.

Preach it, brother. Amen.

Do you by chance work in trucking? I do and you nailed the driver shortage perfectly.

Not in the business but my company does rely on multiple deliveries each week. Deal with delayed loads all the time and it's frustrating.

http://news.yahoo.com/hungarys-orban-wants-speed-border-fence-construction-073659643.html

Hungary has made frantic and confused efforts to control the huge tide of migrants transiting the country as they try to reach Germany, leaving many trapped for days outside the border village of Roszke and furious at their treatment by Hungarian authorities. On Tuesday, Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced fresh efforts to complete a wall to keep the refugees out.

People are getting desperate over there.

I don't really get this guy. These people are passing through Hungary, trying to get to Germany, Austria, or elsewhere. Most outlets are reporting that very few of these people are actually staying in Hungary once they're in. It doesn't have the opportunity that Germany does.

He'd be better served just making it easier for these people to make their journey, rather than building fences and making people cram onto train platforms for days.

The story about the drowned little boy on the beach stunk from the beginning. Obviously, your heart hurts seeing the kid dead on the beach. But the stories out there about them fleeing in fear of the war in Syria and the denial of the refugee application in Canada just didnt add up. First of all, they sailed from a resort town in Turkey. A pricey destination that a lot of Europeans would like to visit but will never be able to afford. I immediately recognized the town because I've looked into going and determined it was too expensive. Second, If you are in Turkey, you are safe. You are not going back to the Middle East. Period. End of story. That is what the media isn't telling people. You don't have to get to Germany to avoid being sent back to the fighting. Germany has the best social benefits and the longest public assistance. It is also the best place in Central Europe to set up a cash only business and avoid/reduce taxes. Now we find out that the kid had been living in Turkey for three years (no surprise there), Dad was employed, but didnt want to pay for a complete set of dental reconstructive surgery. So he was trying smuggle himself into the EU and to get his teeth fixed for free as a refugee. His family sent him $1000 Euros, which he used to pay for the smuggling fee, rather to get his teeth fixed in Turkey. The family wasn't in any danger and they were not living in fear. They left Turkey because Dad was making $20 a day and depended on family assistance from Canada. If the guy wants to leave Turkey or make more than $20 a day, Im good with that. But Turkey doesnt classify exit visas on the basis of claimed refugee status. They could have immigrated legally at any time, including to Canada where their extended family has resided for over 20 years as resident aliens with full benefits. It may be a$$ covering, but the Canadians are saying they could have processed the paperwork in a couple of weeks, based on the family already living there. They never applied. The father should be held in Greece and tried for murder.

What he is worried about, with some justification if you share his nationalistic views, is that there will be/ already is a large influx of refugees as the EU slowly debates on what to do and what type of aid to send to the countries that are housing millions of refugees (Turkey, Jordan, Lebanon -- one out of four people living in Lebanon today moved there from Syria in the last three years, btw). So, at least under his thinking, he believes that Germany will put out the welcome mat because of their post-Nazi era immigration laws. Then once the refugees are in place in Germany, the EU will mandate that every country in the Union will have to take in a portion of those refugees. This isn't without justification since Germany was telling Hungary to hold some of them in place until social services in Germany could catch up. Hungary said Heck no, and gave them a choice. Go over the border or go back. That pretty much set off a short term panic a few days ago.

So he is covering his flanks in terms of domestic politics. In the short term, the refugee situation has placed a burden on some social services and caused gridlock to parts of their transportation system, even before he took action/spoke out. By pleading for a long term immigration policy with limits, he looks responsive to native Hungarians who are angry about the disruptions. On a long term basis, he looks responsive to the people who are concerned about the EU enforcing cultural and religious integration and infringing on Hungarian sovereignty. Again, not without some justification. Notice how none of these refugees are headed to Switzerland. Portions of Switzerland banned the construction of mosques and limited refugee benefits because of perceived changes in the aesthetic of some Swiss towns - architecture, etc. They are not part of the EU, so they could do that. The refugees have looked elsewhere.

From a foreign policy perspective, he is earning points with Spain, Portugal, Montenegro, and other countries in the EU that are already dealing with their own migration issues and have opposed forced resettlement at even lower numbers than are being talked about now.

Of a lesser consideration is that Hungary is a beneficiary of the EU policy on member states citizens working in other countries. The theory, and it is flawed in some ways, and well grounded in others, is that if you send in a million refugee people into Germany, those people will compete with Hungarians who are working low paying in jobs in Germany and sending money back to Hungary. If those workers are displaced by lower paid refugees, then grandma back home in Budapest is going to have a cold winter. So he is making a political appeal to those fears for his own benefit.

Founding fathers were of European heritage and were wise to not limit or outright give freedom to black people. They foreshadowed such savagery as gun running, thugging and gangs from the hood.
Without counting, this is probably your 10th post in 3 weeks criticizing America's Founding Fathers as being racist. Please come up with some new material for your "all white people are racist" trolls.

Lol how is calling them wise criticizing them. If anything they weren't listened to.

I'm having a lot of "I told you so" moments with my EU colleagues. They are so way left ... of even the American left, they blindly align themselves with the American left as if "Duh, that's minimum." So now that this is happening, they are quickly recognizing what we constantly deal with here in the US.

Especially when I cover the fact that it is our American, Civil Right to never be questioned if we are a citizen ... unless we break the law. I.e., this also protects undocumented residents aka illegal aliens ... unless they break the law, other than the entry (which becomes circular here ... back to being unable to ask a "law abiding resident"). In the EU ... there is virtually no such, equivalent Civil Right in the least bit.

the immigrants also wanted to become americans and assimilate to the culture...my great great grandfather came over from germany before WW1 and changed his name from Heinrich to Frank to sound more american...they stopped speaking german to their children and only spoke english...

I have no problem with people that want to come here and assimilate...

And the added, bigger problem is that we're making it the hardest for those who are legitimately trying to get into this country, have strong educational and unique work experiences, and want to better the US.

We either grant amnesty to the crap, letting them utilize free benefits (the whole reason for the "1-strike rule" -- commit fraud and you can never become a citizen, does wonders to solve the fraud problem), all while taking advantage of the hard, migrant workers (who should be on the track to citizenship), as well as herding uniquely qualified engineers and scientists (our #1 lifeblood for the future) into the H1B Visa program which is a corporate, indentured servitude system (that replaces American workers -- and it's not against the law to use it that way either).

If you're the country that everyone wants to come to and you've got a huge number of people trying to get in, then how long should it take to go through those people to make sure the immigrants are value added? For that matter, has anyone actually proved that America needs an influx of talent today?

I'm sorry that you believe the propaganda you've been force fed. The term should be migrant, rather than immigrant. The educated and experienced you are seeking to attract have the intellectual capacity to shop around. They avoid the countries that aren't going to subsidize their behavior or incentivize their migration. Ultimately, those persons are seeking a location that streamlines the entry of their extended families. The numbers don't lie. After you factor in all the subsidies for their "talent" and the entitlements for their elderly relatives and children, any economic growth or industrial advantage by inviting them in is lost -- except to the employer with the muscle to have us all absorb their profit making scheme. It's why countries like Denmark and Spain are refusing to continue the charade in the name of "openness."

Moreover, it sends a troubling public policy message that your solution to a failed education system is purchasing mercenaries.

Reading some fear there are sleeper cell isis agents sneaking into these countries among the refugees. Scary times over there.

I don't think its fear as much as grim certainty. The question is whether they're the ones that will act or whether they will stay and radicalize others.

Germany has already identified several that came over the Hungarian border that would have been denied entry if they had flown into the country. There's a reason Russia, China, and Saudi Arabia aren't accepting any. And don't forget, the Boston bombers were "refugees."

Serious question, I really dont know, can someone help explain this for me?

I think the Syrian civil war thing has been going on for a few years now. Why are we just now hearing about all these immigrant problems? Has it been going on this long and our media is just now getting around to it? Has something changed recently?
