US not the only country with immigrant problems

Yes. Europeans with the economic muscle to complain said we can't afford it anymore, like France and Denmark. Greece suddenly said to the EU, if you keep making us take these people, we are going to need a(nother) bailout. Its one of the reasons Greece leaving the EU was a bluff. If that happened, almost a million people would leave Greece for Germany and elsewhere. That isn't politically tenable. Merkel is trying to win a no-win scenario. She wants to settle these folks and absorb the economic costs while keeping pro and anti immigrants happy. You can't have it both ways. Shaming other countries into doing it will only lead to problems elsewhere with other issues where the Germans don't have as much leverage.

I'm in London, heading to Germany this weekend. The word over here is that Merkel royally screwed up by declaring Germany "open" for every migrant- they don't actually want ALL of them but every single migrant is headed for Germany. Germans don't want 1M migrants from the MIddle East flooding in.

Now the eastern bloc countries can't possibly handle this. Germany restricts their border, they close theirs, and suddenly the open border policy is dead overnight.

What a mess.

Anti-EU sentiment is so strong here in the UK. I bet they vote to leave the EU next year.

Everyone freaked out when Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize without doing anything. I sighed in relief. I immediately knew he wouldn't be tempted to make deliberately stupid moves like this one trying to get the prize in the future. Merkel might as well wear a T-Shirt that says I Want The Peace Prize. Only Sepp Blatter actually campaigning for it is more comical.

Are we talking about the same guy who just signed a terrible nuclear accord with a Shi'a theocratic terrorist regime at the expense of our allies in the region?
