We weren't that great that year, just lucky more than anything. And that was in our 16 game losing streak, with the loss being the 17th and final.
USF came in with a great game plan, got ahead of us and forced us away from our running game. Then they piled it on, crushing and demoralizing us, including throwing on 4th down and other things when the game was well in hand.
They were making a statement for the polls.
Again, lucky more than good in 2005. We had just enough talent to make it happen, especially with new defensive recruits to return some to the offense.
The South Carolina loss finally got us off the "Bottom 10," but we still weren't quite up to playing a new BCS program "loaded" with hardship waivers.
Let's not kid ourselves.

UCFBS, just like your thoughts of GOL's very good strategy was having the freshman play the Stanford game this like it is a practice.
USF wasn't putting points on the board in 2007 for polls. It's a rivalry game!!!!!!! It shouldn't be USF's job to stop playing offense when UCF couldn't stop them. Blame the head coach and defensive coordinator for not doing their jobs that game.

They are just trying to validate their team. It's all good. At least win your bowl game, will ya?
I don't say that, journalists say that. They were open longer and have benefitted on the academic side.
Outside of endowment size, we're pretty much equal. Even then, neither one of our Universities are world beaters and either fanbase bringing up Academics seems downright silly. It's not as if it's a Boise versus Stanford argument where the difference is big enough to really matter.
I think The U of WestCentral Florida is trying to say they are the taller midget by 1/4" academically.
The facts are that we were 0-12 this year and our record in this series is 2-5.
So why are we talking smack?
It was great last year when we won our second game in a row in this series and shut them out on their turf with nearly half the stadium being UCF fans and loud chants throughout the stadium and exit ramps after the win.
It was great when we sealed the win with an INT in 2013 on the way to completing our miracle season.
Now.., we need to concentrate on our team and getting back up to their level and more. Hopefully the future will have both teams being ranked so it will mean something nationally.
The games in 2005 and 2007 were the closest to being that.
We need to shut the hell up and be hungry and humble right now.
USF is better than we are and it's painful to admit it, but they are. The past is the past. We have won more than them as far as conference championships, etc., but that doesn't help me sit through and enjoy the painful crap that I saw on Thanksgiving Day. Better days ahead and then we can talk all the smack that we want. Talking shit in a rivalry is about the present and head to head records.

UCF is 2-1 against USF since we have been on equal playing field. In 10 years, the 4 game gap will start to disappear. I think you are overvaluing USF wins against UCF in a relatively short history between our two schools. I will take the high highs for the low lows. Media recognizes us as having actually accomplishing something. Good luck against WKU in your big bowl
The point was that their fanbase has turned back to being delusional again. Nobody thinks that our program shouldn't be humble and hungry, but that doesn't change that USF thinks they are a worldbeater program from the planet awesome. Its' just laughable---thats all. They dont know how to handle to success. Not even an 8-4 season with a highpoint of bowling against WKU.
That was the point. And it is hilarious to listen to them talk as if they are some awesome program. They are just teeny-bopper fans. I don't know how else to explain it. After our program winning the fiesta bowl and all the success we have had I still respect the USF program and potential. I even told a few USF acquaintances to hold out until Willie's recruiting classes matured. They on the other hand are running around like little girls talking as if UCF will never be on USFs level. Its just damn hilarious..thats all. As if they wouldn't want Adrian Killings or Jalin Buie. Hilarious!
