USF-UCF Game Moved to Thanksgiving Night

Texas and Texas Tech fans are bitchin too......oh wait probably not...

My Texas-born wife is laughing at all the angst on this thread. Her: "Oh lawdy, lawdy, [with Jazz-hands btw] won't changing Thanksgiving dinner from 3:00 to 1:00 destroy some sort of time-space-continuum leading to the Earth's destruction...or whatever you nerds say? I thought these schools want to join the Big 12." Me: Yes they really want to join the Big 12. Her: "So why are they bitching about playing a prime-time game? It's not like it's a religious holiday with set date/time rules. Are you sure they belong with us?" Me: No honey, I don't.

I think some of these fans also fear the possible lack of support for UCF football on Thanksgiving because of said reasons will cost them their shot at a Big 12 invite too. Think of what the competition is using against UCF. Can we say 18k at the senior game versus SMU? Lets face it. The only way to solve this problem is to have the senior game the week before Thanksgiving before they finish the season on the road.

I love it actually.

I know our older Alumni might not like it. But establishing UCF-USF as a Thanksgiving rivalry is the best idea, and GoL knows this. I look forward to 25+ years of ABC-EPSN coverage, expecting it to be ESPN when we're both not top 25, and on ABC when one of us are.

Besides, the larger, younger generation doesn't hold Thanksgiving dinner in such high regard. They either go out-of-town for Thanksgiving, and miss the game, or they will make it part of their routine, in-town. And if in-town, they will be more interested in Black Friday, so Thursday Night is better.

I think if we can make it happen every year ... we'll all be looking back in 25 years and saying, "Remember those who complained about it being Thanksgiving night?"

I like this! Awesome! Like GOL said, we will have a HUGE audience this time around regardless of who shows up. It's a hard pill to swallow for some but, in the big picture....this was a great decision.

Tell your families to do a goddamn 1 pm meal so you can leave early. It's not that hard.

We're not the first fanbase to be stuck with tough games for TV. Yet the programs who move up fill their seats regardless.

Less whining, more action.

Unless people made travel plans, they should stop making excuses about not attending the game. People have 3 months to either convince their families to have Thanksgiving dinner early, or on Friday. A good family will be understanding about this. We need to fill the damn stadium at all costs. Hell...offer free tickets to all the Brazilians in town if necessary.

Seriously though...why is celebrating Thanksgiving on a Friday instead of a Thursday such a big issue? The game is set...we can't change it. Thanksgiving you can celebrate Friday...or in freaking June if you wanted to.

I say ... don't say anything. People will decide what is important to them.

The Friday game never drew a huge crowd any way.

Hell...if our own fans aren't going to support this game...promote the hell out of it to the local community as something awesome to do after Thanksgiving Dinner with the family. Anyone not going to the game...give you tickets away to someone local that will go.

Fortunately for UCF, over 125,000 alumni (most of them under 40), live in the Central Florida area and obviously somewhat close to UCF....stats that almost every other Univ would kill for.
Yet, they can't get 45,000 (a little over a third for those of you mathematically challenged) of them to show up on gameday. Go figure, eh?

"we'll all be looking back in 25 years"

I doubt it. I heard s.Florida is 3 years from shutting the football program down. In 25 years we won't even remember this gimmick U school...
