What about Dino Babers from Bowling Green?

No...more like the Memphis, Temple and Louisville type games. Sorry you missed them...as they were pretty dang amazing late 4th Q comebacks.

But since I'm a UCF Fan...I'm thankful for any type of win in any sport...don't really care how you get there and if they win, unlike you and some others, I'm pretty darn happy.

My real fan status has never been in question. Right now I'm the #2 realest behind Honors.

True...but there is a lot more competition for better recruits too (unlike many 2 star kids that ended up at Bowling Green).

Remember, FLA produces approx 350 plus Div I-A Football recruits each and every year...with out-of-state G5 programs making a huge part of that (i.e. usually most of the lower ranked recruits...some higher ones but with poor academics that can't sign with teams like UCF and/or those conf that can't sign non-qualified recruits).

Whoever is the new HC...hopefully they will bring some solid asst coaches, some with FL recruiting experience (some at a P5 level...others at a G5 level), and that they build for the future (i.e. use 90% of your first few recruiting classes on HS recruits...redshirt them...build for the future) vs using large numbers on risky JUCO/transfers to win immediately...which is a sign the HC is sacrificing future success to win early and jump to a higher paying job...leaving major holes in UCF recruiting in the coming years.
I look over that roster and I see South Dade, Plantation, St. Thomas Aquinas which means he's talked to those coaches. There's a relationship there. A different field of kids will give you the time of day when you're recruiting for UCF vs Bowling Green. Is he the best coaching option for recruiting FL? Probably not, but FL recruiting ability should not eliminate him.

No Florida ties. Higher likelihood of a Turner GIll/ Darrell Hazel failure sitiation. Looked great on paper, but they just couldn't get it done in unfamiliar recruiting territories.
This argument needs to die. Any coach can recruit anywhere. Saying this is just dumb, especially when the guy is already recruiting Florida anyways.

yeah Hazel had 11 wins in the MAC...

I'd rather go with established southern or FL ties. MAC guys scare me

What a minute. Turner Gill played for Nebraska when it was a Big 8/Big 12 school. He failed coaching at a Big 12 school. Being unfamiliar with the territory wasnt an issue here.

He will probably not be available. He's one of the best candidates on the board and will end up at a P5.

Darrel Hazell had been in Purdue's recruiting territory for 9 years prior to going to Purdue. He was in Ohio. Purdue is Indiana. Kent St. is only about 5 hours drive from Purdue and Ohio St. is about 3.5 hours drive to Purdue. Ohio and Indiana are the same recruiting territory.

So what you're saying is that GOL and company "Completely" failed at recruiting after Kelly left? :)

Urban Meyer prior ties to Ohio --- none
Nick Saban piror ties to Alabama --- none
Mark Helfrich prior ties to Oregon --- none before being hired as offensive coordinator and promoted to HC
Nick Kelly (Notre Dame) prior ties to Indiana --- is Catholic, does that count?
Gary Patterson (TCU) prior ties to Texas --- none before coming aboard with Franchione as his defensive coordinator
Jimbo Fischer prior ties to Florida --- none before being hired as offensive coordinator by Bobby Bowden
and then of course, we have Bobby Bowen prior ties to Florida before coaching Florida State --- none
... need I go on?

Let's just start with the first one. Urban Meyer was born in Ohio, played football at Cincinnati, and coached at Bowling Green. So please go on...

Wow .... how did I miss that one? Okay, then let's switch it to Urban Meyer ties for Florida before coaching the Gators to 2 national championships

I like Babers' energy. I think that he would do well with Danny White and the Orlando media.

Just like the A.D. we should expect someone not on our list.

Personally, I'd like another big name like GOL was; only this time with offensive instead of defensive credentials. Maybe they could bring in Kruczek and Chizik as OC/DC :)

So

So what you're saying is that GOL and company "Completely" failed at recruiting after Kelly left? :)

I think that is a reality both in the fact that Kelly was a star and there has been nobody to replace him. Also the fact that we were on probation probably limited what we could do and how far we could push the envelope. Lets face it there is usually a backdoor aspect to courting most of the top recruits.

Mike Leach.

Everyone (maybe except you) knows that one too....as the former President at Utah, Bernie Machen (hired Meyer at Utah) came to UF as President...so when the UF Football job came open...his (and Foley's) first and only phone call was to Urban Meyer at Utah.

Next? (Seriously, what college football fan didn't know that?)

The more I read about Dino the more I like him. Here are some highlights:

  • Great attitude shown I n that YouTube vid that Firm shared
  • At BG, the former HC (32-30 @ BG) had a prostyle offense like GOL. Dino transition well and quickly
  • HC at BC 17-9 record
  • HC at E Illinois 19-7 record
  • Without him they were 5-7 and 7-5 this year
  • Was OC under Kevin Summlin and was WR coach at Baylor under Art Briles, Asst HC under Jim Mora, and was under Todd Graham
  • Spread offense would be great for UCF all around.
I really hope we get him.
