What if he's right?

The ironic thing is that Trump's followers would tell you with a straight face what staunch defenders they are of the U.S. Constitution.

Yep. And, I dont know how we get passed this because it isnt ending with Trump, and if people just believe what they want to believe and not what is based on actual evidence, then what are we supposed to do? More Republican politicians at least have got to start stepping up and telling their supporters that this is all BS and Trump lost. The more people who are playing into this charade are making it even worse.

Appreciate that they are being brainwashed/radicalized. One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter. As certain as you are of your reality, realize they are just as certain of theirs.

Exactly. And the endless demonization of institutions, the media, and democrats by right-wing media is creating an environmental of radicalization, much of it a very soft form of radicalization. But if you're convinced the other guys cheat, it's a really easy sell to get your base to rationalize drastic steps.

The damage being done right now - and over the next ~70 days could be worse than the sum total of Trump's presidency. It's not about whether this soft coup is possible - it's about the damage being done.

Yep. When all is said and done I do think Biden will be president, but what happens in 2 years? Or 4 years? Etc etc. If people dont trust elections now why would they trust them then? ANd if this election were to get over turned, then the whole basis of our Democracy is basically finished. We will never be the same country again.

Again with the right wing blinders. You do realize that the overwhelming majority of this has come from the left-leaning media for the last four years, right?

The fundamental problem is that - as a free society that values freedom of speech - we have no answer to domestic disinformation. What happened in 2016 via Russia was problematic, but at least you could do something to try and thwart it at the source. But when it's fueled domestically, you're left with a precarious choice - allow outright propaganda OR erode freedom of speech.

This is an incredibly hard problem and one that is unique to us. If Freedom of Speech is held to be "Freedom of Weaponized Information Warfare and Propaganda" then this is one of the greatest challenges our country has ever faced.

The founders were well aware of this, and warned us of demagogues over and over. But they never could have anticipated the age of digital information...

Yep. Social media is going to be the death of this country. We live in a time where you can find anything to validate your beliefs, and people will believe it even if they dont know the source of it, I.E. Qanon. They just believe it because they want it to be true, not because there is evidence it is true. And I am not sure if it is going to be possible to stop, and have a feeling it will actually get worse as technology continues to develop.

Plenty of examples of irregularities and fraud. How wide spread is unknown. With ballots flying around and no real validation it the person voting was the actual person, you're going to deal with this. Doesn't help Biden even said he put together the greatest fraud organization ever.

No there isnt.

Coming from the party of Stacy Abrams, who 2 years later still says the election was stolen from her.

I accept that one of us is wearing blinders.

Why do you think conservative intellectuals have abandoned the party? Why do you think guys like Jeff Flake and Justin Amash have noped out? Why do you think George W Bush has congratulated Biden on his Presidency? Why do you think General Mattis said Trump doesn't even try to unite us - he only divides. Why do you think Gen. Kelly called him the most flawed human being he's ever met? Why do you think Mitt Romney voted to remove the President. Why do you think Trump is trying so hard to cycle through cabinet secretaries? He's looking for people who have no integrity. People who will support him - not the US Constitution - blindly and without question.

Call a duck a duck. Support 100% of Trump's policy, oppose Democrats, but recognize what he fundamentally is - the precise type of demagogue the founders warned us over and over about. He only cares about himself. His ego matters more to him than the country or the constitution. Even Nixon stepped away when the writing was on the wall - recognizing the damage a futile fight would do the country.

If you're willing to put aside partisanship for a moment, read this thread from a former right-wing news guy.

She wasnt running for president and her opponent was sec of state and in charge of running the election, which featured extremely long voting lines, broken machines, voters being turned away at the polls, etc etc. She wasnt complaining of fraud, she was complaining of suppression, which are completely different things. She wanted more people to be able to vote, Trump wants fewer people to be able to vote. These are completely different scenarios.

This guy lost in a 86-14 in the 12th most Democratic district in the country (+70 D lean).

WSJ Article -

A team of international observers invited by the Trump administration has issued a preliminary report giving high marks to the conduct of last week’s elections--and it criticizes President Trump for making baseless allegations that the outcome resulted from systematic fraud.
A 28-member delegation from the Organization of American States followed events in several locations across the U.S., including in the battleground states of Georgia and Michigan, both remotely and with observers at polling stations and counting centers.
“While the OAS Mission has not directly observed any serious irregularities that call into question the results so far, it supports the right of all contesting parties in an election, to seek redress before the competent legal authorities when they believe they have been wronged,” the report said. “It is critical however, that candidates act responsibly by presenting and arguing legitimate claims before the courts, not unsubstantiated or harmful speculation in the public media.”

Question - the 9/11 Commission place some fault on the 2000 recount slowing down the transition and our national security preparedness.

So even if you're super Trumpy here, can you rationalize the GSA holding back on initiating the Transition? Even if it's caveated in some way, keeping Biden's team out of the loop for potentially weeks creates a security risk right?

Trump doesn't give a sh*t so neither do his followers.

I can see your journalist and raise you a Jeff Van Drew. But this is tiring and we’re not going to get anywhere. Enjoy your victory. Hope it works out for everyone.
