What is Critical Race Theory??

"America in the 21 st century sucks because in 1619 we had slaves and the global economy was slaved based therefore our founding is immoral . Our founding is mixed ."...so even if it's mixed you can still have deep history lessons about the terrible terrible deed that is/was slavery.

Um, sorry to freak you out, Crazy. My bad. Santa Claus IS real. :)
Well, go back to my earlier post. Did you know that the US set up a 40 year naval blockade to stop slaves being taken out of Africa?

If history was so whitewashed to the point of glorifying white Americans, don't you think that would be included in textbooks?

I'm cool with teaching kids about both the good and the bad in US history just as long as it includes BOTH the good and the bad.

Have there been any movies in the last 60 years that glorified slavery or Jim Crow laws? Every one that addresses the issue have always painted the slaves as being the hero and the slave owners as being the villain. It seems like pop culture has already overcome the "whitewashed" history books.

That's the point! Glad to hear we're in agreement.

Textbooks are intended to educate. It shouldn't be left to pop culture. We still have textbooks in this country that teach creationism with no mention of evolution.

Still avoiding the question about our slave blockade?

WTF? What did I just get done saying? Of course we should talk about the blockade!!!! Is that clear enough for you??!?

Quit trying to paint me with your strawman-colored brush.

No strawman. It was a question. Were you taught that in school?

As per usual, Shuck can't answer a simple question.

I wonder why, since this is not part of any curriculum that I'm aware of and it involves race, doesn't CRT include it in its more "comprehensive" history on race in the US. Maybe someone should start an alternate CRT that focuses on all of the great things white America has done for black people and give a recording of all of the bad things that black people have done.

I have no issue with telling the truth. Fact is in 1619 slavery was a thing before the "founding". Globally, not just in the new world slavery was the rage. It's not an American sin nor was a problem created by the early European colonists. So, let's talk about the truth. Truth is African tribes caught and sold people from other tribes into slavery. British , Dutch and Portuguese slave traders showed up and bought them. Yes that sucks but Africans were just as dirty in the slave trade as white Europeans.

This part is just flat out wrong. You're a good poster and come from a good place so not jumping on you, just an idea I always see floated when trying to "contextualize" slavery in the New World. Transatlantic chattel slavery was significantly different in a multitude of ways. The history is clear in this.

You are correct in that virtually the entire world had their hands in some form of slavery/servitude but for some reason it's always conveniently ignored how inhumane the transatlantic system was in comparison.

I agree, African slavery was WRONG and is definitely a part of the story, but it needs to be told honestly.
