It would be helpful if you didn’t just lump everything together into gun deaths. People bent on suicide will find any way available to kill themselves. Guns are actually a poor way to go about it.
Also, I would hope that justifiable homicides would be a plus for gun owners, as that is someone who was threatened with imminent grave bodily harm or death. I would hope that we would all be grateful that an attacker was stopped from harming a victim.
So, for the rest of them, the overwhelming majority of firearm murders are committed by a small minority of gun owners and most of those are unlawfully possessing a firearm. I know it’s tempting to try to simplify the equation to more guns = more gun murders, but that is wholly inadequate to explain the complex problem. As Chicago has proven repeatedly, making firearms illegal does not keep people from possessing them; especially those with criminal intent. Even more especially when we share a border with a criminally corrupt country that is so porous that nearly anything can be smuggled across with relative ease.
