Stuck in traffic
Tailgater or brake-checker?
http://boingboing.net/2016/08/24/who-is-wrong-here-the-tailgat.html

Car A is passing other cars/trucks in the passing lane and leaving room for people to merge in from an on-ramp.
Car B is riding Car A's ass like a pornstar.
Car A pulls a douche-move brake check, to which Car B swerves out of control into the median and almost into oncoming traffic, saved by the high-tension cable barrier, but his car is trashed. Car A drives off as if nothing happened.

Who's really at fault?

Both drivers are Dbags.... but car A is at fault. Brake checking someone in the fast lane is the ultimate sign of "I never got to be hall monitor in the 4th grade, so here is my chance". It serves no purpose except to create an accident.

I agree to an extent. Car B shouldn't be tailgating like an a-hole when there are cars merging onto the freeway. No merging or not actively passing? Car A is the asshole for riding in the fast lane and brake checking.

Car B. I always hate when people ride in the left lane but Car A was correct in moving over to allow people to merge over off the ramp. Car A didn't even do a hard brake check, just touched them a little. Car B was obviously not paying attention hence their overreaction.

Car B. What BTK said. Besides driver for car B was probably a speeder.

Speed is irrelevant in the left lane. If you are doing 85 and someone behind you is doing 90, move to the right and let them pass. Thats how you keep keep a good flow.

Car B is no doubt an impatient asshole who thinks the whole world revolves around him/her, however the accident does not occur if Car A doesn't their brakes for no reason except to feel like Barney Fife.

Not when you're approaching an on ramp and cars are merging on. You move over.

The tailgating douchenozzle was obviously playing on their phone. They way overreacted when they saw brake lights.

I would agree with you IF people followed the law and used the left lane appropriately. Sadly, people don't and excessive speed becomes a huge factor.

Car B is at fault for not maintaining a safe following distance. In Florida (no idea where this happened), there is a statute against impeding the flow of traffic but since both cars passed the truck then it would be hard to make an argument for that.

So it falls back to the one that was tailgating. Who got lucky and also got what was deserved. There's no reason to get up that close. Your life isn't going to end if you make it to your destination a few minutes later. But it sure as hell may end if you cause a dangerous situation and the unexpected happens, like in this video.

It doesn't matter how fast the car behind you wants to go, if you are actively passing (which includes passing cars merging onto the road) then the left lane is fine. The problem is a lot of drivers plant themselves in the left lane and stay there, even when the lane to the right is open or the car in the next lane is going about the same speed.

If I'm in the left lane with the cruise set at 75 and the other two lanes are doing 65-68, I'll be damned if I move out of the lane just to slow down so you can get by my. My fuel economy is far more important than your urgency.

If the speed limit is 70 and you are doing 75 you need to not be in the left lane.

If he's actively passing traffic, hell yeah he better be.
Ehh..I get that sentiment and don't necessarily disagree, but damn I hate when 75 is the fastest anyone will go on the turnpike.

Besides, this is the internet, I need to take a hard stand one way or the other!

I drive in Chicago traffic daily, I got you beat.
At least you have some options to go around. I have 528 and 528. No ****ing exits. No other ways across aside from 50. And people are either going 90 or 60. FAAAAKKKKKKK

Oh yeah, I don't envy you at all don't get me wrong. I also only have to do it 4 days a week.

Car B was clearly at fault for following too close, and then for overreacting and not being able to recover, but Car A had no need to do the brake check, which is equally as dangerous as tailgating. Both are at fault to a degree.

Bitches get break checked, because bitches can't deal, bro.

IIRC in the video, it looked like they had cleared the traffic merging and there was an opening to the right. Definitely not defending douchenozzle ass rider in Car B, because getting that close is just asking for trouble. But until someone can justify why Car A hit the brakes, other than to cause an accident, he is douchest of douchenozzles. (Plus its Internet, HARD stand)

Funniest part of video is after the accident occurs, Car A's reaction.... "Hmmm I think I should probably get in the right lane now."

In real life, I have no problem with someone going slower than the me in the left lane, as long as they are actively passing traffic on the right. However once you pass the cars to the right of you, move to the right instead of camping there.

Final Note: If you ride in the left lane, and decide it would be a good idea to go same exact speed as the other 1,2, or 3 lanes. You are the worst. You deserve to rot in hell.

I don't ride on people's asses, therefore a car in front of me quickly braking will not cause me to fly off into a ditch.

If you're riding so close that a tap on the brakes makes you lose control then you're an asshole and deserve it.

My real problem with the brake check is that it not just dangerous to the one dick driver, its dangerous to everyone on the road, you, people beside you, and especially all those behind you, who have no part in it. In this instance, the car who just merged on a couple seconds earlier almost becomes an innocent victim. It's actively trying to cause an accident.

Car B, totally. Car A did not have enough time to get over in the right lane when the brake check happened. Brake-checks should never occur but people who ride another car's ass are schmucks, too.

I've seen videos where the Car A guy clearly has time to get over but refuses to do so to be a dick. That was NOT the case with this instance.
