Makes no sense, and just goes in line with how conservative we are as a whole. The guy is 240 pounds and basically a TE playing WR. Kick returns are fine (even though I don't think he should be there either, just to keep him healthy) because he can get a head of steam. Punt Returns are more about being shifty and fast (basically every good PR starts with making the 1st guy miss). He has solid straight ahead speed but he is huge and doesn't strike me as shifty at all. Do we literally have nobody else that can catch a punt?
This is not a knock on Akins at all for the record, he is a beast and a matchup nightmare on offense. But he has no business returning punts.
