Why is the current HC for UCF volleyball coaching. That team is a disaster. Last year's collapse was followed by another collapse this year. Correct me if I am wrong, she's never been the HC at a big program before.
So I won't defend Coach Maurer because the team is definitely not good right now but the team she inherited definitely wasn't the caliber of team that we were used to. I think both she and Coach Messer (WBB) should definitely be on the hot seat.
For volleyball specially I think that despite the fact that the sport has grown in popularity that the gaps in the tiers of teams is pretty substantial. Even when the team was successful in the AAC under Coach Dagenais the team never made it out of the regionals and the Big 12 is obviously a much better conference than the AAC in volleyball. Also part of the reason the end of the Dagenais era was so successful was the fact that we had McKenna Melville who was dominant and was so impactful that once she ran out of eligibility that Coach Dagenais decided to retire.
I think on paper Maurer wasn't a bad person to promote but she adds to the growing list of poor choices that Terry has made as AD and it's frustrating that Terry doesn't seem willing to put in the work for all our programs in the same way that Danny White did. I'm not saying to deprioritize football but I liked that Danny didn't accept coaches underperforming in non-revenue sports.
