They are on lockdown and wearing masks?

Is it because of Trump? I thought Newsome was in charge?

left leaning people put them selves in path of Covid spray droplets. If you lean right you are moving away from those droplets.

You guys think online politics is how everyone acts, they listened much longer than Florida but even Straight Blue voters in California stopped listening. There have been a lot of illegal parties in the Hollywood Hills and I know someone in San Diego that isn't really listening anymore and has let his guard down.

Also it wouldn't surprise me if that way more contagious UK strain is in LA

1.29 million alleged cases in Florida (3rd largest state and open. Confident leader as our governor)
Let's see....a population of 21.67 million people with 1.3 million reported covid cases and 21,852 covid deaths.
2.23 million cases in commiefornia.
Yeah, California has a population of 39.56 million people with 2.24 million reported covid cases and 24,963 covid deaths.

Tell us again how Florida is doing SO MUCH BETTER than California! 🤪

Ugh... is it because we are going to gyms, restaurants, football games and bars and they are ordering takeout with gloves from their lockdown basements?

....or here's a thought, maybe @Poolside Knight has a point (above), maybe it all about how people in both states (regardless of their politics) are behaving. Certainly Floridians have nothing to brag about.

There are probably dozens of strains like that going around the US. It would almost be impossible for there not to be

I just took my kids ice skating today. Absolutely packed. Universal hit capacity in 10 mins after opening while Commiefornia is closed. For ice skating I had to arrive 1 hour early just to get a pass.
I'm telling you some of the top surgeons in Orlando go to large house parties.
I guess we don't have to wonder why Florida is one of our nation's leaders when it comes to covid deaths.

Just admit the lockdowns and all the other stupid responses by liberal governors have failed miserably.
After you get it through your thick skull that the covid infections are tied to the unsafe practices of a state's population, not the political affiliation of their Governors.

Everybody knows the risk. Whats the point of fighting a person's right to autonomy at this point?

Yep this. Was listening to a pod with some LA restaurant owners talking about the huge take out orders they're getting and the underground restaurant/party scene. Prohibition doesn't work.

California getting another 40k cases today. Solid work Newsome! Keep those businesses closed you commie.
Why is he even fighting the will of the people at this point? Obviously he hasn't proven to be a leader that others will follow. Hes like a general that has lost his militia because they know he is leading them to death, and what few followers he has left have been tasked with catching the ones they can so they can be put to death.

I didn’t realize that this underground thing was going on. Interesting. Let’s see how that plays out

You've GOT to be kidding me!!! Florida has handled covid BETTER than California??!?

This idiot apparently flunked elementary math.
Adjusted for population, the #s are pretty similar. Fl is having 13 to 14k new cases per day, and total deaths of 21.987 with an older population than Calif. Total population approx 22 Million.

Calif, is getting 30 to 33k new cases per day, has 25,987 deaths though they are way out pacing fl in deaths right now. total population 39.5 million.

The biggest difference is they are mostly locked down and FL is up and open. Their lock down is showing no better than FL being wide open for business.

Maybe California should try the same thing New York is looking at doing. Internment camps for the infected.

They might as well go full China and just shoot people in the streets. Then imprison any reporters and any people expressing dissenting opinions. Let’s see exactly what Americans will submit to if they’re afraid of something.

Most will. It always comes down to the fact that the idea of freedom is an illusion created by something it can be compared to. People only think they are free because they view prisons as being un-free, so they must be experiencing freedom. No matter how far you push the line, you will still have most people complying because they view that as better than the alternative.

You have to work awfully damn hard to create a scenario inside your head where you, me, and all of the folks posting here on this board aren't living through a unique time and a unique place where we are experiencing the greatest amount of personal freedom in the history of humanity.

Any comparison of COVID numbers by state should always include the state's unemployment rate. Destroying thousands of people's lives in order to save a few more on your covid numbers is ridiculous.

Agree, but the progressive socialist are working as hard as they can to end that personal freedom.

Funny how it's those 'progressive socialists' who are working hard to end our personal freedoms.

A casual observer might opine that a Republican President hellbent on destroying on our country's bedrock democracy might fall into this 'Ending personal freedoms' business.

You just made my point. You are free, relative to something you view as un-free.

Closed California versus open Florida, who is outperforming the other?
Florida has smaller population than California, but both have similar number of cases per 100,000 residents

Oh well. So much for lockdowns.

The #s per 100k are similar no matter where you look right now. Lockdowns are a total waste of time and effort. social distancing likely does help, Mask might help, cleaning hands often probably helps.

Sad that all these people lost their jobs or businesses for nothing. No measurable difference

Here's how the positive cases are going to come down. The same thing a lot of people have been saying for months, so I'm sure it's just a coincidence that the WHO says this on the day Biden is inaugurated.

I was stunned with what I discovered in the link you provided. I cannot believe that Nucleic acid testing (NAT) technologies are using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for detection of SARS-CoV-2!!!!!

Who woulda thunk it??!?

Its saying that the cycle rate needs to be reduced to avoid false positives.

So we are simultaneously undercounting cases assuming ten times as many infected as reported cases to get closer to herd immunity but also over counting cases due to false positives to scare people. And the same person believes both of these things.

We are counting cases that shouldn't be counted. That isn't really in question at this point. Unfortunately, due to that its impossible to extrapolate any data to get an idea of how many asymptomatic people there are because Trump wanted to have more tests than anyone else. Its a total clusterfvck at this point trying to figure out how transmissible and how virulent it is.

Except that it wasn’t just Trump. Demanding universal testing was the point du hour after the vents point became moot. There was a huge consensus among “experts” that was pushed by media that the only way we were going to beat this was to test as many people as we could. At the same time, the admin was getting huge heat for lagging behind all the horrendously inaccurate testing that was being performed. Right or wrong, let’s remember the context around the push for such pervasive testing.

Our government never got anywhere remotely close enough with rolling out its testing program to make the original notion for workplace testing work.

The workplaces where it WAS implemented and it WAS used effectively were with our major professional and college sports teams. Players were tested daily and when somebody caught the bug, the player was identified and temporarily removed from the team so he wouldn't infect his teammates. It's one thing to cover pro and college sports program, its quite another to routinely test 140 million American workers.

The NY Times wrote a story about this in August or September. Nothing ever changed with the amount of cycles. But I guess today is as good of a day as any to fix this problem. Just a regular old day, no special changes. Maybe we can get the CDC to no longer combine the “deaths with covid” with the ”deaths from covid.”

I wonder who will lead the U.S. delegation at WHO? I hope it isn’t the guy who authorized a 3.7 million dollar payment to a lab in Wuhan (where we will one day be told the virus escaped from) to do Coronavirus experiments that were illegal in the states....oh, it is?

Well then I hope it isn’t the same WHO that helped China lie about it origins and then led the world to believe that the virus is much more deadly than it is....oh, same WHO?

Well then I certainly hope the U.S. isn’t planning on rejoining the WHO....

Great. And now their protocols are so far beyond what is being recommended you can't even see there from here.

Now it will be required to get 2 positive tests with a much higher threshold plus a doctor observing your symptoms before it can be coded as a positive case. Do you think that's a good thing or a bad thing?

We're at the point now where mass vaccinations are the way to go if we hope to return to some level of normalcy this year.
