Women and the draft

They say they want equality in the armed forces but I wonder how many signed up for night patrol on the streets of Fallujah.

How would this inflict immediate harm on women? It didn't inflict immediate harm on me when I got my draft card at 18.

Another view that's hard to argue against....

Men, and now WOMEN between the ages 18-35 will be part of a well-regulated militia, a reserve, that is controlled by the state department/department of defense and therefore have a constitutionally-protected right to keep and bear arms without question. This actually protects the 2nd amendment for the ages of 18-35 (depending on your interpretive view of the amendment, the "militia" view being most common by the far-left). Brilliant! Don't register? You're a felon...and can be fined 200,000 bucks.

I get that the idea of manhood is a thing of the past, but whatever happened to men being men and wanting to protect women and children? I don't want my daughters fighting any wars. Maybe men will return by the time they are old enough to fight.

I agree completely. However, nowadays being a gentleman is a quick way to get yourself labeled as sexist or misogynist. Sorry, but female POWs would be subject to a lot worse than their male counterparts. Feminazis somehow see it differently though.

This entire movement is another example of how Obama is more concerned with fighting a culture war inside the DOD rather than actually giving a shit about the armed forces.

Fine- they opened women to combat roles. And exactly 0 have made it through combat school and very few, if any, are signing up to try. I read a story about the women who attempted Marine Corps Infantry School and every single one flamed out with injuries that hardly ever occur in men.

Who goes into combat shouldn't be a worthless experiment that serves as nothing more than a footnote for your Presidential Library to pat yourself on the ass for advancing equality.

I've heard from someone who would know that a woman did show up to Ranger Regiment and flamed out 2 hours in.

So what's the f#$%ing problem? Now women can apply, show up and see for themselves that nobody is keeping them out. They just need to meet the same requirements than men.
Like somebody said: soldiers need sandwiches too.

Because its a waste of time/money to even pander to them in the first place? While they are taking up valuable spots that could have been men that have a high probability of passing?

Because now our elite training schools are wasting time and money to accommodate women who stand no chance of actually passing. All for the sake of Obama being able to say that he waged a culture war within the DOD and won.

How many women are qualified to apply? They'll probably get a few candidates at the beginning and then it will drop off. As long as they keep the same requirements for males and females it won't be a problem.

BTW, looking at the new generation of men, we may need women to defend the country when we get older

This isn't about joining the military, this is about selective service. As a man, at 18, I had to sign up in order to receive student aid. I didn't join the Army, I never wanted to. So why is it that women don't have to sign? If you're an American citizen, you should sign, regardless of which restroom you use.

Actually joining the military, that's a completely different topic.

Ok- so if it's a foregone conclusion that women won't actually earn their way into combat infantry positions, then WHY are we wasting time with evaluating them during Infantry School?

So we aren't discriminatory and sexist. you fvcking pig.

Exactly. If they fail, they fail but it isn't right to keep them out just because they are women. Who knows a transgender woman may get through (or is it transgender man?)

Another reason to make everybody sign up for selective service instead of just men: what if an 18 year old man doesn't identify as a man? His reasoning is good enough to use a different bathroom but not good enough to avoid selective service?

Having women sign up for selective service is about killing a future argument, once we're all bored with restrooms and shit.

So, it's not okay for men and women to use the same bathroom, but sharing the same barracks is okay?

Just arguing.

.
Understand this doesn't mean women will be drafted alongside men. It just means women will have to register for Selective Service at age 18. The military can, and will likely still, prefer men.

In fact, the USMC is stewing over Congress ignoring their own, deep, objective study that showed all sorts of 100% combat performance-based dynamics hurting the team in certain roles they have long outlawed from women, but are now forced to fulfill with women. USMC is now trying to equalize their physical requirements for women to men, as their prior, lower physical scores were allowed and based on women not being allowed into certain roles.

So ... there's a lot of politicking here on all sides.

As far as the bathroom, we Libertarians are totally having a field day at the expense of both Democrats and Republicans, on how they are so focused on "group rights" instead of solving the "individual privacy" realities that we all want. The idea of separate men's and women's bathrooms comes from a day of completely different working and child rearing demographics. Before accessibility stalls, baby changing stations added to the men's, and the same issue if Dad can take his daughter in with him, or Mom her son.

But this is the USA. We love to argue ... instead of solving the real problem.
