the basketball team finished last night and that was a relief....congrats BBall team!!

great job Shaheed....and Justin, off the bench, was a catalyst for our finish...

but with the talent we have, that game should have been an easy 20 point win...we had bigger, longer and more talented big men and we didn't take full advantage of it....we continued to play small ball when our match-ups were in favor of using our bigs and we should have pounded it inside...and when we play small ball, we know the horror story of dribbling/passing around the perimeter until there's 5 seconds left on the shot clock...that sh?#s got to stop...

and Donnie came out with Tacko setting high screens (top of the key)...are you kidding me...all that did was draw an offensive foul on Tacko...

this was a game to consistently have a combo of 2 big men on the floor and pound it inside...and we saw in preseason that Tacko and Justin play well together....in fact, if you watch them on the bench, Justin mentors Tacko...there's an obvious chemistry there...

one of our combinations has to be both of them on the floor at the same time with the Davis' and it gives us 6'9". 6'9", 6'10" (and 320 lbs) and 7'6"....then put BJ out there with them (when he gets back) and you've got an explosive offense....off the bench, throw in Adonys and Matt for 3's (if they sag on our bigs), Staphon to spell the bigs and Daiquan for a change of pace...you've got a heck of a 9 man rotation....

when the big guys are out there play a zone d, hands up, and that would make it tough for the other guys to shoot anything inside 25' without a challenge....then change it up to man-to-man when Justin's on the bench...

honestly, this team has the potential to be good this year and really good next year....now it's time for the coach to be good at his job....

I agree 1000%. We should have won by 20. McBride was the difference in the 2nd half.

Yeah, now it's the coaching and the preparation that's hurting us....I agree. Playing Speraw ball and winding the ball (passing) around the perimeter (with not a clue what to do) is going to hurt this team. We're passing and passing and passing and it looks like we DON'T know what to do until the shot clock winds down. It's like nobody wants to cut to the basket.

I realize Donnie is substituting because of some big men being winded but some of the substitutions I don't understand? Maybe to throw the other team off.

Also I was so confused as to why we are not seeing McBride...I couldn't understand it. Then finally Donnie puts him in and look what happens. McBride comes alive. He's a Sophomor now.

Also, how is the other team able to put up all those 3 point jump shots on us at will? Talent difference? Were we not playing defense on the perimeter?

When donnie had tacko shoot and everyone crash the basket.......things started rolling with Tacko or McBride in there because we were following up.

I still don't know which way the season is going to go. Free throws still hurt us. Donnie has to make this happen or else the HOT seat will be a comin! :) JMHO

McBride (Junior) is still a liability on defense against much quicker (usually smaller) post players, that, and how quickly he gets winded, is the reason for his short spurts.

Yes, McBride easily has the best shot/low post moves out of the 3 at this time on offense...Tacko helps stopping opposing guards from even attempting to drive to the hoop...which forces teams to chuck up low percentage 3's...which i don't mind (UNCG attempted 34 three's...hitting just 9 (26.5%), as because they didn't attempt on many possession to get the ball down low, that was the main reason why UCF had just 7 fouls called on them all game long...meaning no one, including the bigs, were ever in foul trouble.

Opponents are shooting just 28% from downtown against UCF (Davidson did hit a respectable 36%), and if that percentage stays close to that number, UCF will win a good amount of games this season.

Marc Daniels said on his morning radio show today that his 17 losing streak calling games was broken. Last game he called when UCF won was in May.

I agree KL. I just hope Donnie makes the right lineups and subs! :)

But that will change from game to game...as with most college players...they will be streaking (i.e. Shaheed Davis going crazy from downtown last game, McBride getting hot late in game), so DJ will constantly have to make a few different line-up calls, especially without BJ Taylor.

McBride is either hot or cold (gets frustrated easily on the court), and odds are, in UCF's next win, AJ will have more than 2 pts.

Good news for DJ is that at least there are a few more options this year to use...vs last year...when he was stuck with the same 7-8 players each and every game.

next game...

failed to finish....no 2 big man lineup in sight...perimeter players still stand around and now are turning it over...there's no way around it, right now, Donnie Jones is a terrible college basketball coach....
