Around The Kingdom - The argument for and against Gus

Join Eric Lopez and Trace Trylko as they debate some of the current topics surrounding UCF Sports.

In this episode, the guys talk about the season finale and the send off of a senior class that includes RB RJ Harvey.

Plus: what is the argument for and against Gus Malzahn staying as head coach.

Also: is UCF a good job, is a RJ a top 4 running back, what's up with men's hoops defense, and is it time to hear from Terry.

Is Dylan Rizk our future QB?

I will agree with you with one caveat. Arizona was probably the only game also where it seemed Gus kept his hands off then play calling and didn't seem to be secretly sabatouging the game.

A perfect example of this occurred in our last possession before the half in the West Virginia game. RJ Harvey and Rizk have the team moving (they had just scored on the previous drive) and have momentum and then inexplicably after getting a first down Jacurri Brown is running on a keeper up the middle for a loss of 2. Even the announcers called it a boneheaded play that the whole stadium knew was coming. Camera pans to the sidelines and who's holding the play, calling sheet....Gus.
ugh....gus :-(

I don’t think anyone has suggested it’s a problem bringing in Jacurri on short yardage situations…I do have a problem with a QB starting who can’t pass and can only run…..as has been the case until Rizk.

If Jacurri doesn’t/can’t pass when he does get in..defenses will just key on him and the running game by stacking the box. Coaches aren’t concerned with hurting feelings. I think Gus has found that Finding exceptional QBs who can pass and run is not easy. Maybe Gus should focus on recruiting passers? QBs have to be able to pass. He needs to get over Cam Newton…those quys are rare….even in the NFL.
Man, I couldn't agree more!

Unless there is better QB that is recruited, I see the 3 QBs who have had playing time on our roster competing next season for the job. Personally, I have no problem with HC using 2 QBs next season; it worked with the Gators in the past when they won the Championship with Tebow running in short yardage and goal line situations while other QB with his passing skills was used most of the offensive series. You do that until you get an exceptional QB who does both well. You don't keep one QB in one time because they might have their feelings hurt, the truth hurts suck it up.
