The SCOTUS decision to kill Roe v. Wade was shocking and ridiculous. But once it happened, it's been fascinating to observe how dramatically the public discourse has changed since then.
I understand that most good Catholics and other people of faith feel strongly about the issue of abortion. It's a deeply-held conviction for a lot of people, myself included. My wife and I had two kids and the thought of an abortion would've been abhorant to us.
But when it comes to inserting the government into our family's decisions, it's a whole different deal. "Pro-lifers" want it to be a black and white issue, but it's far from one. It is beyond appalling that a woman in Georgia experiencing complications with her pregnancy was left to bleed out because doctors and nurses were afraid they'd be charged with performing an abortion. Same with shutting down IVF clinics for couples trying to have a baby. Or a State government forcing a 13-year old to have her step-daddy's baby. Where is the common sense??!?
The theocrats on the Supreme Court went extreme and America is suffering the consequences. I find it incredibly ironic that the same conservatives who want the government out of their lives tend to be the same ones who want the government to control the reproductive rights of women. Explain that logic to me.
