I know there was a long thread quite a while back about cord cutting, streaming services and devices, but with recent and not so recent price changes, new streaming services, and everyone having had a chance to enjoy (or not enjoy, depending upon the quality) most of this year's football season, I thought it could be helpful to revisit what everyone's using and how happy they are with their services (channel offerings, streaming quality, service interface, support if you've needed it) and devices.
We currently have Hulu + Live TV, Netflix and Amazon Prime. We have three TVs. One has a Roku, one has a Firestick and one is a Smart TV that also has a Roku on it, and we have a Nvidia Shield that we're currently not using. We also have a couple of HD digital antennae that work surprisingly good for the local channels. Our wireless router is a high quality gaming wireless router that's quite good, and we have high speed internet that far exceeds the requirements of any streaming service.
We're strongly considering making a change in our primary streaming service, with Hulu's recent 22% price increase (and the increase, which takes place next month, offers no new channels or functionality). The channel offerings for the Hulu + Live are pretty good, including the sports channel line-up (the one thing we seriously miss from our previous cable plan is the NFL channel). The Hulu interface is very much lacking, in our opinion.
We've done a desperation-based trial of Fubo TV twice, once to get a UCF game that we couldn't get on any of our services and once to try to catch an NFL game being played in London. The quality was horrible each time, prompting us to forever nickname it Fubar, and feeling confident that we've never pay for that (lack of) service.
Sling looks to be inexpensive, but very limited. Haven't done a Sling trial, so no idea of the quality or the interface.
Just started a trial of YouTube TV, so we'll see how that goes. Grandson's here this week, so also kicked off a Disney+ trial, which I don't anticipate we'll continue after the trial.
