***FAU QB Cam Fancher commits to UCF***

kmgospckmzk6niwnn7bh

UCF added their fourth transfer portal commitment on Friday from Florida Atlantic quarterback Cam Fancher, a veteran player with three prior years of starting experience.

A member of the Class of 2021, the Ohio native began his collegiate career at Marshall where he won the starting job midway through his redshirt freshman season in 2022. The team went 6-1 during that span as Fancher completed 131 of 236 passes for 1,558 yards with 10 touchdowns and six interceptions. He continued as Marshall's starter into 2023, connecting on 336 of his 551 pass attempts for 3,766 yards, 21 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.

Fancher transferred to FAU in 2024, completing 126 of 212 attempts for 1,528 yards, six touchdowns and six interceptions.

In his two full seasons as starter, Fancher earned a 66.4 offensive grade at Marshall (2023) and 66.1 at FAU (2024). Fancher's high point in 2024 came in the Owls' 41-37 loss to North Texas in which Fancher passed for 351 yards with three touchdowns and an interception, earning an 89.9 PFF grade.

Fancher adds to a UCF quarterback room that currently includes Dylan Rizk and Jacurri Brown. He is the Knights' fourth transfer portal commitment, joining Tulsa DT RJ Jackson, Maryland DB Brandon Jacob and Washington OL Gaard Memmelaar.

UCF had also been recruiting Penn State backup quarterback Beau Pribula, who visited Thursday afternoon. Pribula also visited Missouri and Iowa and was scheduled to be at Ole Miss on Friday with the possibility of Indiana later in the weekend. It's unclear whether Fancher's signing has any bearing on UCF's chances with Pribula, though it's likely a fourth scholarship quarterback is added at some point.

I rewatched the 2016 Cure Bowl so you don’t have to

Why would I succumb myself to this torture you may ask? Well, I wanted to prepare myself for the lows we may experience of a first year with Frost, especially with how many players we’ve lost and if we are starting a young QB. In addition however, I also wanted to remind myself what Frost, his staff, and McKenzie were able to do in one offseason. My takeaways:

- The offensive line was… well… offensive. They were AWFUL. Pressure immediately in Mckenzie’s face on nearly every play, and zero run blocking. Amazing the improvement that was made in year 2, given that the line included many of the same players

- McKenzie had no chance with this line, and of course, due to this, he made many freshman mistakes. Again, amazing what he was able to do in year 2 considering how bad this game was.

- Frost’s playcalling never adjusted to the defense to take advantage of the over-aggressiveness by the Arkansas state d-line. Too many slow-developing plays that put the QB in a no-win situation. Again, the difference in year 2 was night and day.

- The defense was about the same, made big plays but also too many coverage busts.

I remember being there at that game, and it was like death by butter knife while watching in the stands. I’m sure you guys, like me, were wondering what the path forward would be with how bad we looked. The job that the staff and McKenzie were able to do in the offseason from year 1 and year 2 was incredible. Can we repeat this? Hopefully year 1 is better this time.

OT: Orlando Restaurants worth checking out?

Hello All-

My wife and I are heading down to Orlando to attend the spring football game. We'll be down there for a week and have no plans beyond the game Saturday. Just curious, what restaurants do you guys recommend?

We're staying in tourist hell Kissimmee most of the week, although we do move over to the Marriott on campus the night before the game.

I'd love suggestions on good spots to check out anywhere in the greater Orlando area. Totally flexible on price point / cuisine and we don't mind a drive.

edit: one question about spring game. I have a UCF helmet in my office I'd like to get signed by players. Does the spring game have any access to the guys where that may be feasible? I don't want to be annoying or chase people around but if they take time to chat with fans maybe I could bring it along just in case. Is that bad manners? I don't really know how this stuff works.

The 2024 Sonny’s
A staple of the Sons of UCF coverage over the years has been the annual Sonny awards, given out to members of the football team based on their performance in that season. As you know, 2024 was a challenging year, but the Sonny’s must go on.
A couple of category notes: a player is labeled as a newcomer if this is his first year with the program (transfer or freshman). A player is eligible for the breakout category if they have been with the Knights for at least a season (redshirts included). Everything else should be pretty self explanatory. Without further adieu…

Offensive Newcomer - Jacoby Jones, WR

COLUMN: And to all, a Good Knight

Time to turn the page to 2025

Happy Holidays, Knight Nation. We’ve made it through another year. Hopefully, we’re all a little older and a little wiser. I tend to use this time of the year to reflect on everything that’s taken place over the last 12 months. Here are some thoughts as we wrap up 2024.

Cats

Hey cat people, do you let your cats walk wherever they want in your house?

I didn’t grow up with cats and my wife and daughter are allergic to them. My mom got cats a few years ago and those things walk all over the counter and the table. It’s nasty. Spreading their dander and cat brain viruses all over food surfaces. Plus those little jerks are mean. Vile creatures them cats.
